    Notra Dam

    Who owns Notra Dam?

I thought it was church property. All I listen to on the TV are Macron and architects saying what should be done. Who owns it anyone know?

The Notre-Dame cathedral building in Paris is owned by the French Ministry of Culture.

It belongs to The French Ministry of Culture who are responsible for its maintenance - in recent years the French have not had sufficient funding to maintain it. But Notre Dame is known as the daughter of the Catholic Church, which is one of the richest religious institutions in the World . It is said to be worth £2.8 billion. Weird how proud everyone is said to be of the property - yet when it required money, no-one was prepared to pay for it.

However since the fire, £millions have now been donated toward the cost of repairs - although one would have thought this building had been well insured against such events.

Yes - I can't imagine that any insurer would take on an historic building like that, knowing that one serious claim would bankrupt them.

Did you know that there was not a lot of special attention paid to that building until Victor Hugo wrote the book "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" in 1831.
