Crown Green Bowlers Under Attack
The towns Crown Green Bowlers who are largely pensioners are finding the greens and games being damaged and disrupted. A match at the Botanic Gardens was disrupted by a gang of youths lying on the green, running off with the Jack from one end and then riding his bike across the green to the annoyance of the players, who where a ladies team. The Green at the Botanic Gardens is often used by youths for games of football and stunt riding bikes both of which seriously damage the playing surface. It does not stop there other local greens have suffered damage through this type of behaviour. The towns parents shoulder responsibility for the behaviour of their offspring, who are out of control. What do I hope to accomplish with my post well to get it off my chest mainly but also to bring this situation to the attention of people who may be able to help.

This really saddens me Evadeus.
I hope your appeal will result in some volunteer wardens to allow you all to play in peace.

Disgusting.
As Hamble said, I hope there is someone who can help. Maybe a few blokes who happen to be sat watching when these little scumbags appear.
I know the police won't bother about these vile creatures, but when something like this prevents you enjoying part of your life, it is very distressing.

The kids will be locals, the bowlers will be locals, somebody must recognise the kids.
The Police do turn out to cases of Anti Social behavior and if the Neighbourhood Inspector knows about it he will probably amend his patrols routes / times, but if it's not reported nothing will happen.

The Police are aware of regular trouble makers at the Botanic Park. They are also aware of the number of children's homes in that area. I think there should be as Hamble says, a group of wardens patrolling the park and elsewhere where there is regular trouble.

There is a commonly held mis-conception that anyone detaining a young person will be thrown into a Police cell and subsequently hauled in front of a Magistrate the next morning.
Section 3 of the 1967 Criminal Law Act says -
A person may use such force as is reasonable in the circumstances in the prevention of crime, or in effecting or assisting in the lawful arrest of offenders or suspected offenders or of persons unlawfully at large.
At first sight there appears to be offences being committed under the Criminal Damage Act of 1971 and the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act of 2014.
These would give a person or persons the right to detain under the Criminal Law Act.

Seems like an excellent way to get get a smack in the teeth or worse and get accused of being a child molester.

There are homes where children live just like every street but there are no residential Childrens Homes.

None round there either, I only know of 1 in North Southport and I'm not sure that is still open.

It is worth approaching first with reasoning.
Most nuisance behaviour is attention seeking.
Faced with 'warden patrol' youths will be met by polite but firm message their behaviour is not acceptable but they are welcome to sit and watch
and chat.
I know this method has worked.
In fact the gent who told me said after a few days he told the youths he needed to go home to see to his dog and would the youths take his watch!
I not minimising the incident for Evadeus just presuming the victims tried ignoring the behaviour and polite desist requests which of course does not work.
Having volunteer warders who are well grown and fed bypassed by beauty is also an advantage.

They used to be 2 of the best kept Bowling greens in the area, and both my late father and mother played for the Botanic Veterans League teams, and to see the demise of the club,as it was then,to how it looks now is heartbreaking,as the clubhouse is looking untidy and in urgent need of restoration, and when walking through on numerous occasions in the past, there has NOT been any team members playing on any of the greens ? Even though both greens were well kept and mown regualarly, and with not reading the local papers,as in the Visiter or Champion, and I personally thought the club may have folded.
After reading this news about the Yobs running around, and disrupting these people from playing a bowling game,by invading the greens, and riding their bikes on them,it disgusts me totally, and hopefully these persons will be found, and court action taken against them. There are'nt that many bowling greens left in the area as it is,and for some people they are a place to meet up with friends, and enjoy, what is supposed to be,a fairly quiet and enjoyable past-time for people of ALL ages, and for these yobs to harrass, and disrupt the game is dispicable, and justice should be taken for their unruly behaviour, and for the damage they have possibly caused to the greens.

That very distressing Evadeus . Typical of the youth these days . They have no respect. Are there no wardens at the Botanic gardens.
REST IN PEACE THE 96.

We have the same problems trying to play cricket on a Saturday after noon on Rufford Road. Over the years gangs of kids gather buy the playground shelter. They purposely kick footballs and ride their bikes across the pitch to disrupt the game. I have tried walking over in a none threatening maner and to ask the to stop but all I got was swear word responses. When we once did warn them they later ruined the pitch so we could't play for a couple of weeks. So you can't win. Most of these children are about 14 years old. The language is unbelievable including the young girls who often fight each other. It is a terrible shame really. I only hope they don't speak like that at home
