Clap For Carers tonight
At 8pm tonight (Thursday), we can all go out and 'Clap for Carers' again.
I think it's going to be a weekly event for a while. I know it isn't much, but for those on the front line it really does make a difference knowing we appreciate them.
It is Thursday, isn't it? It's like that time between Christmas and New Year where nobody knows what day it is. Yes it's today, I've just double checked.
Not sure that 'clap for carers' is the best name, as it invokes some childish 1970s giggling . But it is the thought that counts, so let's make some noise, folks. Clap, whistle, bang your pots and pans. Anything to get that message of support across.

You're right, of course, but I find I have awfully mixed feelings when I'm clapping, as I'm aware that the majority of these brave people feel like they are as lambs to the slaughter without the proper PPE.
It feels like cheering on the damned .

My wife is a Senior Carer and will be home just after 8pm having done a 12 hour shift.
She'll miss the applause, but I'm sure she'll appreciate it.
She'll then be 'on call' as she is most nights, because residents can fall ill any time during the night (nothing to do with coronavirus) and they have to be accompanied to hospital by a carer if there are no relatives nearby. She's done this several times, getting home at 3 or 4am, and going back into work at 8am.
This is why care homes have difficulty in getting staff!

I know what you mean. But it does get through. It does make a difference.

I hope she knows just how much we all appreciate her and her colleagues. Not that most of us needed reminding, but this situation has really hit home how much NHS and key workers are to be cherished. They are an amazing bunch.

It went well in our neighbourhood - plenty of people turned out.
