Local Lib Dems were jubilant at last night’s local elections in Southport which saw them win most wards and most votes. They won four wards out of seven, with Labour winning two. Ainsdale was the one ward won by the Conservatives.
In terms of the popular vote the Lib Dems won 39% of the total votes cast. Labour, having claimed in their literature that they were ‘surging’, fell back to 23%, a collapse of 8% since last year. The Conservative also did badly, securing just 20% of the vote across the town.

The sheer Chutzpah of this is staggering. No mention of the loss of a Lib Dem Cllr in Kew. I'm a Norwood ward resident and all the literature I received said that the two Lab Cllrs were only due to defections and that the seats would return to the Lib Dems. Well that didn't happen they stayed Labour.
Desperate stuff this really.

I think Liverpool had more corners against Barcelona during the week, but don't think you win a game of football on corners.....
Lib Dems did fall back though

Shame that we have another 4 years of Shaw and hasn't John Pugh milked enough money out of Southport by now for an unremarkable set of achievements.....
Also, given it's Sefton Council elections slicing and dicing to get something to crack the Cherie Brandie open over, the real statistic is 21% of the vote not, 39%. But also seem to be airbrushing that they did not win back the seats from those they labelled "defectors" and lost another so the mantra of "labour can't win in Southport" was flawed. At least their new PPC is a very weak candidate as another Lib Dem MP for Southport would be terrible. To given something back to the Libs I do feel very sorry for "ward activist" Jo Barton who has been pushed out of her ward by Daniel Lewis at the last election who seemed to be bored with running sessions in Norwood so he muscled in on another ward, definitely not honourable tactics.

Good to see the Conservatives did so well...
Perhaps they will shut about a Southport Town Council as they would have so few folk on it.

Of course it's a biased report. It will have been written by a Lib Dem councillor.
