The Lungs of the Earth are on fire
Heartbreaking news over the past few days. 80,000 fires raging through the Amazon rainforest. An 84% increase on last year.
What really hurts is that most are started by human hand. The idiot Bolsonaro's policies have made the whole thing much worse.
Imagine the wildlife that is dying there. Part of a French cathedral burns and the whole world is in mourning. A massive amount of our oxygen goes up a flames and there's hardly a whisper. Tragic.

My mate was in Rio about a month ago, he was touring around Brazil - beautiful country and lovely people, he said he had a great time there. That was before the fires began. Hope the greenery will return - feel sorry for the people.

That's the problem, the greenery will never return. Bolsonaro, Brazil's Trump, repealed previous policies enacted to stop deforestation and cattle farming in the Amazon. The Amazon fire isn't a natural disaster. Bolsonaro has encouraged people to farm in the Amazon, so people are setting the fires to clear the land.
One in every five breaths we take is produced by the Amazon. I feel sorry for mankind if these savages destroy it.

I thought it wa accidental similar to that which we have in the UK - only our shrubs and greenery grow back very quickly - though not the trees which the council and building contractors have been cutting down regularly.
I understand that the Amazon Rain Forests have been severely cut back over the years, but more so during the last few years. This, it has been claimed, is due to the USA's trade war with China having reduced competitiveness in agricultural goods and making it highly profitable for Brazil to engage in concentrated agriculture.
But where Brazil expects to make profits from agriculture, it will lose out on tourism. Thousands of tourists every year travel to Brazil to admire the forests and scenery of Brazil. But scientists are very worried about the long term effects deforestation will have on South America and indeed, the rest of the world. Some one should advise Jair Bolsonaro to put a halt to this deforestation immediately.
"Scientists warn that ongoing destruction of the Amazon could have dire economic consequences in Brazil and beyond by destabilizing regional rainfall patterns — especially in the agricultural heartland of southern South America — and accelerating greenhouse gas emissions. Roughly a fifth of the Brazilian Amazon has been cleared since the early 1970s, while significant expanses beyond that area have been degraded by logging and fire. Brazil accounts for nearly two-thirds of the Amazon rainforest, which is Earth’s largest tropical forest." Mongonbay.
