Well the lanes are up so we can now measure demand.

It is a clear referendum on cycle lanes, so now is your chance cyclists.

Although the current supporters of this initiative if my memory serves me correctly don't like democracy and would want to repeat the process till they agreed with the result.

Let's put walking & cycling to a vote

…a reference to BREXIT politics? Rearguard action for the good old days ?

    I win. You lose.
Why is it some see a modest provision for safer cycling as an affront? A few less parking spaces and limited access to Queens Road. Some have suggested that Southport's central business district businesses are in peril because of this. If Southport is an attractive place to visit and shop (and it is), then how are cycle lanes a problem?

A few posters to these web pages are feeling terribly insecure.

I’m behind the cycle lanes initiative and fully back democracy. If your comment about wanting to repeat a process refers to Brexit, well I voted to leave!

That's great so if their a success we can both welcome them staying.

If their hardly used then we can both welcome their removal.

That's democracy in action great stuff, well done.

I was driving past Dobbies on Benthams Way last Sunday, about midday, and there were10 cyclists, and 2 were actually using the cycle lanes, and yet the other 8 numbnuts were cycling on the road, making vehicles swerve to overtake them....?? What is the point of having cycle lanes when this for example 8 out of 10 won't use them ?

Because the surface of the cycle lane is rubbish. Next question?
Also, “vehicles swerving”..? You mean pulling out to overtake? Also “numbnuts”..? You mean human beings, fathers, mothers, sons, daughters. Also “8 out of 10”..? Lucky you didn’t run out of fingers .....

Try riding a bike down the Bentham's Way cycle lanes and then you'll understand why many cyclists prefer a road that has a smooth surface, hasn't been made uneven with tree roots and hasn't had half of it's width covered with overgrown shrubbery.
Maintain the cycle lanes on a par with roads and most cyclists will use them.
As it stands it's perfectly legal for cyclists to use the road even where a cycle lane is provided.

Swerving, according to the dictionary, is ‘changing or causing to change direction abruptly’. If drivers are having to ‘swerve’ to overtake, then perhaps those drivers should consider whether they should be on the road!

It's transpired that Path'n'Pedal actually stands for (Foot)Path'n'Pedal, and is supposed to be for the benefit of walkers as well as cyclists:

Is this the end of pedestrian areas?

    https://www.qlocal.co.uk/southport/f..._-55047651.htm

This has been little known on this site for reason that the poster with the username PNP is of course only interested in promoting cycling.

The only thing I find surprising in this post, is that you saw 10 cyclists, apart from the coastal road and the lycra clad brigade, have never seen that many cyclists during a single trip,

Are you one who has to swerve then? There’s plenty out if you’re looking (including this morning in the rain!)

Steer around them,is that a better word to use ? What difference does it make, when you have to avoid pillocks who cannot even ride a bike in a straight line..Get back in your tree..

Get back in my tree? Wow there’s maturity!

If you read the Highway Code, particularly this section:-

    213
Motorcyclists and cyclists may suddenly need to avoid uneven road surfaces and obstacles such as drain covers or oily, wet or icy patches on the road. Give them plenty of room and pay particular attention to any sudden change of direction they may have to make.

Maybe you may want to consider your above comments.
