Qlocal has been contacted by a concerned resident about the ongoing roadworks on the A565.
I wonder if you are aware of the potential driving issue that I’ve seen for the 1st time tonight. When driving home from Preston 2x vehicles were performing the same manoeuvre at consecutive gaps just after the junction.
Drivers are not expecting vehicles to appear or cross the carriageway via the gaps between the reservations, so may still be travelling at 50mph and will either have to brake suddenly (potentially endangering the following traffic) or suffer a high speed collision which lead to more serious accidents/injuries.
You’ll see that I’ve notified the Highways Dept at Lancashire County Council marked urgent, as well as copying in both the Southport and West Lancs MP’s.
Dear sirs,
With reference to the current roadworks on the A565 at the junction of Moss Hey Lane in Mere Brow/Tarleton.
Are you and/or the police aware that a potentially more serious situation is currently arising?
Because the crossing between the carriageways is effectively blocked, some vehicles travelling towards Preston are now continuing past the junction and then slowing down and turning through the gaps within the central reservation itself. I’ve just witnessed multiple vehicles doing this and I think this is a potentially more dangerous set of actions than were present with the current junction……and that was bad!
Is it your intention to allow vehicles to perform these manoeuvres to the potential endangerment of both carriageways? Do keep in mind that the speed limit for vehicles driving on the A565 itself is 50mph, so these actions could be catastrophic.
I trust you’ll urgently investigate and stop this action.

I used one of those gaps once and it was scary, wouldn’t do it again

I'm pretty confident that its a traffic offence to use them as they're for emergency vehicles only!

Don’t think I ever saw any signs. One I used was after dropping dog off at Richmond Kennels and saving driving to Banks roundabout and back. Certainly won’t be trying again. The danger spot as everyone knows is the crossing near TC’s where reduced to one lane each way
