The Carstairs Club was really a very nice place. Quiet and never any trouble. I was resident drummer there for a few months in 1964/65 with Derek Huson on piano and the crazy bass player whose name I can't remember, but earlier, he had played at the Glenpark Club with Robin Grace and Bill Muir. He must have worked at a carpet shop or something because he told the same joke every week about the woman coming into the shop and asking "If I buy my carpet here, can I get felt for nothing?"

I went in once when it was still the Carstairs with my Brother,it
was the day of Billy Hodges funeral I remember that. Then
I would go sometimes with my brothers on a Saturday when it
was the Office.I loved it when the characters would get up to
sing, with the late Alf Presburg playing the Organ.
I never saw any trouble the times I went in.
You would see Alf staggering out later on, with his wife June
trying to keep him upright while getting him into a taxi.My Mum
worked at the Fox and Goose and you woud see Alf in the Doubles Bar.......a likable bloke he was and always grinning.

I was never a connoisseur of the various drinking establishments, prefering to stick in the Imperial and Toad Hall until 1980 when I decided to get down to some hard work.

Another one I heard about was Robert Henry's but never went there. I think it was were the Greek Restaurant is today.

As for Mike L. Never seen him !
