They do look a harmless bunch!

Could some one tell me where Christ the king school was?

I left Meols Cop age 14. We moved to Hartlepool,Durham for my father's job.It was a big shock Boys and girls were caned for most infringements by most of the staff.
There was not the friendly respectful relationship between teachers, puplis I had been used to at Meols Cop.

The film 'Kes' reminds me of those times.
I could not understand the geordie accent any more than they could understand my'posh' Southport one.I opted not to talk !If you did not constantly chew Beechnut chewing gum you were worth talking too.

The punishment for this was lines....

'After repeatedly being told by myself and other members of staff chewing gum in school is not allowed,I still persist.Perhaps after writing these lines 500 times I will begin to realise this school rule serves a useful and important purpose'.

I never learnt the art of not being caught!

Although never caned myself, it was traumatic watching others, usually same children beaten. One teacher in particular was brutal.

Luckily after 14 months, in 1975 my father was promoted and we got to move to Formby.I finished last year at the civilised Formby High School.

In 1990 we were near Durham and drove to old house, school.I met this brutal teacher, remembered my short time there. As he showed me around the school he looked and sounded a nice genuine experienced gentle considerate guy proud of his school pupil sucesss.
Made me think. The world is a very diferent place now. It is Right that children are no longer beaten in school. Also only fair that apart from the
odd criminal teacher to not judge on today's standards.

    Stamford Rd. Birkdale.

    They were far from harmless.

Four teachers there though were the best teachers I'd ever had after six schools. They were the first teachers I'd met who treated you as though you might actually be human!

Thank you, soon as I looked at the map, got a flash back of going to stay at a school friends house near there, age 12,seeing a high school.
I thought Christ the King was a school no longer there

I do agree.BAD teachers ruin your confidence trust in adults .Good teachers remembered for ever

Is Meols Cop still divided into boy's and girls?
Does Windy harbour road school still exist?
I went there for 6 weeks in the first form before moving house.

i left 1985 and was so happy, there was so many rubbish teachers, murry bligh mr rogers, prime examples, put me off sending my daughter to this school even though its proberbly different nowdays, although i thought mr fletcher was an excelllent teacher, he seemed to make boring subjects interesting to listen too, ha ha didnt he teach history. i remember miss mullen she liked mebut i didnt like her then there was mrs dempster, me and my mates used to call her rag dolly dempster. mr best and mr rafferty, who could forget him all the girls fancied him and he knew it.

My partner left there in 76, I thought most of the claims on here were wild exageration but he assures me it is all true. He reckons the only reason he came through it untraumatised is his junior school was just as bad and he thought such abuse was normal.

    Never saw this question originally.
The best teachers IMO were Frank Moran, Joe Atkinson, Harry Rimmer and 'Jake' Gavin.

Incidentally... Joe Atkinson could smoke a rollup down to about 1cm before his moustache would start smouldering!
