Schools, colleges, government buildings and courts are closed, more than 150 flights have been cancelled, and residents have been ordered to stay indoors due to hazards including flying debris, falling trees and flooding.
The storm is due to hit the UK, where amber wind warnings have been issued for Northern Ireland, western Scotland, and Wales.
