Fantastic weather for the three days of this years Southport Air Show. The Red Arrows got the show off to a flying start on Friday evening.

Also flying Was the iconic Battle Of Britain memorial flight and the last Blenheim Bomber.

Saturday was quiet as many people stayed away to watch the England match.

Sunday was busy but not packed out.

Many people commented that there was a lack of ground displays in the so called Air Show Village.

People also commented that there were too many small planes doing aerobatics with each display being the same.

Catering vehicles outnumbered military displays by 5 to 1.

One the beach there was nothing apart from a couple of field guns.

In the Airshow Village there was a Chinook Helicopter and a couple of guns.

Years ago the beach was packed with paintball ranges, Tanks , Zipwires and various other military hardware.

Battles used to take place on the beach as troops parachuted from planes overhead. These days nothing like that.

Each year we pay more money for less entertainment.

TBF - I thought it was quite decent, also heard many people saying how great it was, really enjoying the day etc. etc... and ABF did have a paintball range there. There wasn't quite so much on the ground hardware wise maybe but the air display was good. Also, they did at least sort out the sound system... other years has sounded like two bean cans on a bit of string, was much clearer on the commentary side.

People probably put off by the relentlessly negative local news sites.

More likely put off by the lack of trains, Northernfail cancelled a dozen services to or from the town yesterday nearly half of all services and only ran one out of town after the Airshow finished not only will have impacted on people coming to the town for the Airshow it will impact on future events and future years.

That's shocking! Shouldn't QLocal be reporting on that rather than doing down the Airshow?

Yep, also probably very misrepresented as is usually the case.

Having said that, Didn't bother this year, Went up Snowden instead. Which was also very quite, Think the sun was putting people off.

doesnt surprize me it wasnt as good. I went for my regular walk when i visit southpot . going to walk along the marina, when i was stopped by two young people officials :))
who said I could"nt walk along as it is the air show and cost £10 each I replied I dont want to park a car and you cant stop padestians walking on a pavement, they insisted it still costs £10. which to me is a gisgrace a public right of way being obstucted for payment it is worse than dick turpin highway robery. I dont wish to travel to southport in the future and i would pay to walk on a right of way. and my father was in bomber command and used to service some of the planes on display..
