Southport moved off the bottom of the National League table with Liam Nolan's late goal in the 1-0 home win over Boreham Wood.
The visitors' goalkeeper Grant Smith denied Southport the opener twice in the space of five minutes in the first half, firstly saving Louis Almond's shot from the edge of the area 22 minutes into the game.
Smith then denied Ryan Higgins when he stopped his free-kick on the goal line as the home side pushed to break the deadlock.
Boreham Wood finally carved out a threat after half an hour but Southport's Craig King tipped over following a corner.
The game looked to be heading for a draw but Southport grabbed a vital victory to lift them above North Ferriby when Nolan finally broke the deadlock with nine minutes to go.

The skinners back again moaning about Clapham get a life mate, all the people on here who talk rubbish about our chairman just remember who saved this club from extinction.

Rubbish? Is the lack of ambition Rubbish
Is the secrecy of everything that goes on in Haigaveagrad Rubbish
Is the absolutely scandalous turnover of Managers Rubbish
He may have saved the club 20odd years ago but would a quick painless death not have been better than the long lingering death by a thousand managers, I'm afraid the only person who needs to get a life instead of cheering the failings and complete lack of any optimism and hope by the man who cannot be challenged is YOU.

The term "our Chairman" says it all doesn't it. You can almost smell the sycophancy oozing from every pore. I bet you would volunteer to wipe his backside if he asked you randy. It's pathetic to behold.
As for the bit about "saving the club from extinction" that was well over 30 years ago. How far forward is the club now as we teeter on the brink of relegation yet again?
On a more positive note, well done the manager and team for yesterday's result. It's probably a case of too little too late but at least we're still in there with a shout.

Well if it wasnt for Clapham we wouldn't be here would we, remember that when your slagging him off. Clapham has done pretty well with this club over the years pileing his own money in, no wonder he doesn't speak to the fans if all the fans can say is Clapham out, that is absolutely rubbish we need him here.

I wondered how long it would take you to regurgitate the old fairy story about Clapham putting his own money in to the club. Charlie's pathetic disciples have been peddling this fiction for years without a shred of proof that he has put so much as a penny into SFC, but still you keep spouting this interminable claptrap. You have clearly never heard the adage that a myth doesn't become fact simply because people keep repeating it.
As for "we wouldn't be here without him" you have not a shred of proof to support that either. It is well documented that other parties were sniffing around Haig Avenue at the time but credit Charlie in jumping in first. I admired his opportunism at the time but the club has stagnated ever since. The trouble with you and your ilk is that you are so blinded by your sycophancy towards your glorious leader that you refuse to recognise reality even when it's staring you in the face. Like I said before, you're just pathetic.

Look at the facts we are in the black under Charlie, we are not spending above our means like other teams are, all the sponsors around the ground and paying the coaches for away games for the rest of the season, that's a nice generous gift to the fans.
He comes across very well when I've spoken to him, I have a lot of respect for him as a person and chairman of this football club and we should not be wanting him out, he should stay and help this club move forward because he is a fan just like the rest of you people wanting him out.

Well it wasn't Clapham. The club was saved from extinction 2 years before he walked through the door. It as Colin & Deric Hall with help from people like Brian Bennett that saved the club from extinction.
