It was once one of the best hotels in Southport standing proudly on the famous Lord Street boulevard. Now the Scarisbrick Hotel is rated worse than Pontins on the Trip Advisor website.

Out of 1558 reviews on Trip Advisor 611 rate the hotel as terrible. There are 116 excellent reviews.

Some of the most recent reviews make terrible reading for the hotel.

Amazingly some room have stickers advising guests that it can take 10 minutes for hot water to reach your room.

Only go to this hotel if you plan on being drunk and passing out in your room, that way you won't be too bothered about the state of the hotel or the noise.

Looked a dump when stood outside. Needs updateing.room was really small 115 first floor bathroom stank,it was cold in the room drawer front was hanging of,carpet was stained and as for the noise it was unbearable went on till 2.30 in the morning, I wouldn't put a dog up in the place it was disgusting.

“Contender for Worst Hotel we have ever visited”

Our room was tiny with 2 single beds, the toilet flush had a mind of its own and over the course of the night/ morning our sink was blocked.
Hotel is very dated, dirty socks found on the landing, underpants on the table in reception. Rude staff, most foreign. Cleaner couldnt speak english.

Spent the night with my mrs and was shocked by the state of the room dirty walls dirty floor we would never stay there again and would never recomend any one to stay there 1/10 poor . While on are stay there was outher couples complaning about there shower not working the place is a let down to southport

Our neighbours were busy one morning & not wanting to bang on the wall, I waited it out, to hear him exclaim in disgust "Just OK!" There was the silver lining... kept me laughing for hours.

When this was privately owned some years ago it was a beautiful hotel with top quality menus and attention to detail where customer service was concerned. Now it's a bleak, corporate leviathan who's only redeeming feature is the cheap price and the fact that it's centrally place on Lord St.

There are a couple of average reviews for this year.

We went visiting Southport from Scotland for our holiday breaks. Breakfast and evening dinner were great. Hotel room was cleanliness but needed updated. Friendly staff, ideal location, lots of shop and restaurants nearby.

We stayed here on a Saturday night, the room we were given was tiny but quiet. We asked for a bigger room but the only one available was opposite a nightclub. Noisy, but the room was nicer. The staff here are lovely and are very helpful. Food was nice enough, cocktails were 2 for £6 and lovely. The pub that's attached and behind the bar/restaurant was cheap too. All in all cheap and cheerful. No complaints.

There are no comments from the hotels management regarding guests complaints so it would appear they don't care at all.

The hotel is entirely in keeping with Lord Street run down and full of tat.

Tired Verandahs, empty shops, pavements full of car boot sale style junk.

Moronic fleece clad punters drifting along, parking attendants doing the bidding of hypocritical councillors.

Apparently footfall is up, that I presume is a measure of fallen arches from the obese.

Had many a great night in there, especially Xmas Eve after work. Went in this Jan just to use the bogs, could have ****** anywhere really its an absoulte DUMP a complete mess. How Britannia can sleep at night is beyond me.

Such a shame lets hope somebody along the lines of the guy who did up the Bold can come along. We Live in Hope.

what a shame, the brick (i have enjoyed it for 40 great enjoyable years) has been the go to venue for decades, but when i think about it times have changed, as have our habits, its obviously a complete dump now but that only reflects the destination of the town centre, its descending into a no go zone full of dodgy dudes...people have drifted into more local venues, north lord st bars, birkdale, churchtown seems to have mopped up the drinkers, we dont go out so much now and prefer to go abroad more which most of my friends do...you cant stop the future, not looking good for the centre

Yep, we have plenty of decent places to eat, drink etc. The problem with the Brick is, the owners couldn't manage a Brothel never mind a large hotel. Are they the same owners at the POW?? that's another old decent hotel going to the dogs.

The Scarisbrick, POW ( ironic) and Pontins ( and for that matter the Adelphi) all belong to Britannia. They own altogether about 12 hotels I believe.

Their business strategy seems to be to buy up large but faded hotels where the owners want or need to be out. Then they run the places into the ground.

When we are booking places to stay I always check if it's a Britannia. If it is, I will quit the booking.

What puzzles me is that with services like Trip Advisor now, they still seems to get customers. When you read reviews of their hotels it is clear that their mediocrity is not temporary or that the reviewer is being unkind.

You are right, Jaywick actually has a lovely beach. However Southport has a long way to fall before it approaches Jaywick or even Clacton as a dumping ground for Essex and East London's unemployables and undesirables. Think Croxteth on sea, but built out of old bits of driftwood.
