The small black tiles that have been part of the Lord Street paving for decades have been ripped up today by contractors working for Sefton Council.
As part of the Lord Street improvements a 2 metre wide section will be relaid and the rest of the pavement will be normal paving flags.

Was this part of the original plan or is this them repairing their mess ? In which case it is being done on the cheap as they are replacing the damaged victorian paving with cheap flag work rather than a like for like replacement of what they damaged ! If this is the case the Council needs to hold them accountable as it is akin to replacing a damaged Mercedes with a ford focus !

They are probably doing Sefton a favour by getting rid of them.
If anyone wants some 9x9 tiles just go and see the "travellers" you'll get them tonight after they've found a large enough area to take up.

Our elected Southport councillors just sit back and watch Southport being dismantled piece by piece

Street after street that had tiled footways in the 1960/70's had the 'black hand gang treatment' as the council deemed it too expensive to maintain the tiled footways.
The policy of cheap and cheerful was the order of the day, this was way before the Classic Town slogan was coined, something that Councillor Barton enthuses so much about.
