An Edge Hill University PR student smiles in front of the Houses of Parliament while behind Travis Frain, police officers seem happy and relaxed.

Little did any of them know the horror about to unfold as terrorists struck at the heart of British democracy this afternoon...

Travis, from Darwen near Blackburn, was with a small group of PR students who travelled to London this morning with lecturer Paula Keaveney. They’d met local MP Rosie Cooper and attended Prime Minister's questions when shortly before three o’ clock the horrific drama unfolded.

Tonight, QLocal’s Roger Blaxall spoke to Professor John Cater, vice chancellor of the university. He confirmed a number of students were cutting short their two day trip to the capital with the university paying for them to return home; Cater had earlier appeared live on BBC local news at 6.30 as the aftermath of the drama unfolded.

PR lecturer Keaveney and a group of students from the university were in Westminster when the attack happened - an EHU pr officer confirmed Travis had been caught up in the incident, suffering minor injuries.

“All students and lecturer in Westminster have been accounted for and are being supported by the University,” he added.

Today’s terrifying incident saw five people killed and over 40 injured. One woman died on Westminster Bridge in what police are treating as a terrorist incident. A police officer was also stabbed in the nearby Houses of Parliament by an attacker, subsequently shot by police; a number of pedestrians were hit by a 4x4 on the bridge before it crashed into railings.
