Further areas of Southport town centre are to be designated as no drinking zones.

A spokesman for Sefton Council said: “The No Drinking Zones are designed to encourage more responsible drinking and ensure that the law-abiding majority can enjoy public spaces - safe from crime and anti-social behavior.

This initiative demonstrates the Council’s commitment to residents and visitors so that everyone can have the peace and quiet they deserve - to enjoy the places where they live or work.

The areas will also help to improve the quality of life in local communities through the prevention of problems or nuisances.

Sefton Council will work closely with Merseyside Police and other partners to monitor the No Drinking Zones.”

    The areas affected are...

Southport Town Centre - the area bounded by Kings Gardens, Promenade, Seabank Road, Gordon Street, Lord Street, Union Street, Castle Street, Hill Street, Wright Street, London Street, Chapel Street, Tulketh Street, Bridge Street, Eastbank Street, Princess Street, Market Street, King Street, Duke Street, Morrison’s Car Park

There is little point in extending them as the current areas are rarely enforced!

Lets be honest it won't be enforced on orange lodge day so to enforce it on other days would be discrimination, oh wait that's what they do with the litter wardens isn't it !!

So agree!! What's the point when it's never enforced anyway, walk around town any day and the alcoholics are openly drinking, the enforcers do not want the paperwork!
As far as orange day well say no more, it's a free for all ! Why have it here anyway?
Because no where else wants it!!!

Will it be in place by 12th July ? The council will make an absolute fortune, think of all those Orange Lodge supporters, drinking on the streets, perhaps they should bring the laws in,and cover up the signs on 11th July, devious Yes,but just think of the amount of money made from the fines there will be..............................to be spent on........????

The ban will be lifted on July the 12th as per norm.

This is not working. I was on Lord Street by the Bargain Booze, there were a group of men and women(two), drinking openly beer and wine. The two women became verbally aggressive effing and jeffing towards another group accross the road. A disgrace for Southport. Obviously they have an alcohol problem but it does bring the town down. Absolute disgrace the town needs cleaning up. Move them on and the beggars too.

Last time I looked on the Orange Day parade (well the one in July) there was a banner from building to building saying "Southport traders welcome the Orange Lodges - have a nice day) I would upload a picture but it wont let me. I wont argue with you sorry as you come over as a bigot so...

    Just saying
