Having police officers on the beat does deter crime and I haven't seen a police officer on a patrol since 2016.
You see the odd PCSO in Southport town centre but that's about it.

The death penalty was suspended in this country for much of 1948, while Parliament debated (and rejected) its abolition. It was suspended again from August 1955 to March 1957, during a similar debate. After 1957 the penalty remained in place but was much weaker, though it still protected police officers.
Colin Greenwood, a retired policeman and statistician, studied the data and found a marked leap in violent and armed offences during 1948, followed by a return to the previous level when the death penalty was reinstated. There was another rise in 1956-57, followed by a fall when the death penalty was reinstated. There was a third significant rise in the mid-Sixties, which has continued more or less ever since.
Thankfully victims of stabbings and shootings are much more likely to survive today due to advances in medicine and the incredible skill of our surgeons and other NHS staff, but sadly the lady who was stabbed on Chapel Street could not be saved.

I note the National news outlets are using photographs & videos taken by Roving/Qlocal and the Southport Visiter of this tragic incident.
I trust they will do the right thing and donate all the moneys received for their media to this poor girls Just Giving Page ?

The problem with those figures is that they're provided by the people who lie about absolutely everything.

Stop. this young lady has lost her life if I am reading it correct due to a
domestic issue. Thatbeing the case then 10,000 police officers 20 billion pounds
would not have stopped it.
Jealousy is a bad thing if this was the case.
Don't blame the system because there is not a lot wrong with it, do not
criticise if your own life is not unto spec.

As someone whose job included supplying this data to the Home Office, I deeply resent what you are saying! I don't tell lies, and I don't just invent figures that suit an uninformed opinion.
Incidentally, the figures also show that over 75% of Female Homicide victims were acquainted with the perpetrator.

Regarding the presence or otherwise of "on the beat bobbies" in the town centre, by a supreme irony I spotted TWO police officers patrolling along Chapel Street exactly
twenty four hours before the tragic killing on Saturday, and I remarked to my companion
it was a long time since I had seen such a presence. It may have been of no direct relevance to this case, but it made me think.

I will respond to that! I have just been reading a factual book on Forensics Today supported by many famous legal people. A topic in the book stated that if for Financial/
Political reasons, it was necessary to reduce or increase crime statistics, the crimes were merely re-labelled. i.e. the category of rape would fall under the lesser crime of sexual assault, etc., or assault and battery would be classed under a higher category of attempted murder. Although, it was not established by what authority this was ordered by - it could have been the media or other interested parties.
