The wave of mindless vandalism continues in Southport after another shelter on the Promenade has had a window smashed.
Despite increased Police patrols and private security the problem will not go away.
Another bill for the hard pressed council to pay.
Anyone with information is asked to call Merseyside Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Perhaps the council should install MORE 24/7 CCTV around these vulnerable areas ? As there is a lack of any visual evidence of security in these places were most of these acts of vandalism are occurring. And the patrolling security and Police cannot be blamed for NOT doing their jobs,as they cannot be everywhere at any one time when these things happen,as you would need X amount more patrols to cover all these areas.

There are between 4 million and 5.9 million CCTV surveillance cameras in the UK, according to a new report from the British Security Industry Association
How many of these are located in Southport ?

Totally agree. It's about time CCTV was installed! I've witnessed the patrols going around but they don't bother getting out of the vehicles and the kids just hide until they've driven past!

We get occasional incidents on the Taxi Ranks, but there are'nt any CCTV cameras in the area to monitor any of the trouble, and most of the time the trouble always starts when the Police have the shift changes, during the early hours, around 3.30am to 4.30am.

You can put 500 camera out there,
1. Who is going to pay for them.?
2. These children with big mouths
and little ..... might get intelligent
and put on a hood.

The evidence would be on CCTV cameras, and a patrol could respond, but only IF the cameras were monitored correctly, could the culprits be apprehended on or by the scene.

Again, who is going to pay for these cameras. Do you
have any idea what it costs to install a camera, let alone the
maintenance contract.

What about replacing the glass with bullet proof glass. It maybe more costly but it would help save maintenance.

They are already clad head to toe in identical black clothing with faces and heads covered. CCTV isn't going to be much help identifying one from another.
