The Trustees of Hesketh Bank Community Centre are celebrating after being successful in bidding for an Awards for All grant from the Big Lottery Fund.
The grant, which is just under £10,000, progresses the ambitious redevelopment plans and aim of becoming a community hub for Hesketh Bank by the small team of just six volunteers.
Steve Kirby, who chairs the group, said, “This is a great achievement and gives a real boost to our plans.” The first thing they have bought is much needed tables. Sue Ellis, pictured with some of the new tables, explained, “We have greatly increased the number of groups using the Centre and as a result have been struggling with not enough tables. These new tables will mean that we don’t have to keep moving furniture between halls on the site and improvising with pasting tables.”
The next thing on their shopping list is fitting new vanity units in the ladies toilets. The vanity units were donated last year by Kevin Pointon and these monies will now pay for the plumber and electrician to get them installed. Sue added, “The ladies toilets have been high on our priorities for some time and so we are thrilled we can now tick that job off our list.”
Steve concluded, “Receiving this award is a mark of quality of the work we are doing in the community and we would like to thank the Big Lottery Fund and all the lottery players for this recognition and support.”
