Many visitors arriving in Southport use the Park and Ride facilities provided by the Council. Anybody using the Fairways P&R must wonder what they are letting themselves in for.

The area is littered with rusting containers, a huge pile of grit and other items such as shopping trolleys and an old fridge. All this is located yards from the seafront. With the summer season fast approaching it's time for our elected Councillors to get this mess sorted out quickly.

Funny thing is, councils always insist on containers being painted a suitable colour (usually dark green) to blend in with their surroundings.... not in this case though.

And how long is a piece of string ? As that is how long it will take for this so-called council to sort that mess out.As that site has NOT been touched for well over 18 months now.So we won't hold our breath.

appalling mess well done roving for highlighting this the local papers always have good news and brush over the failings of the council...possibly due to advertising revenue..dont say a bad word about the council

It's not the actual park and ride car park, it's the bit next to it that seems to be used as a compound/storage for highways works. Those are piles of spare flags for Chapel Street in the background.

The sooner the whole site is turned into Leisure/Hotel use as recommended by the much derided Nexus report the better.

Send a couple of cans of Cuprinol to the Town Hall for those Lib Dem Muppets, always sitting on the fence in local control and as in Government when they have got the chance.

Splinters in their arses could be soothed with copious amounts injected!!

If the councillors get it sorted I suppose we could let them have a free "slam", "blast" or picture pointing at stuff/thumbs up. All bets are off if they blame Bootle Labour though.

In all seriousness like someone mentioned in another post, Southport needs to be welcoming to visitors and businesses so eyesores like this doesn't give a good impression of the town.

As for business we need our councillors and MP to focus on how to make things work rather than just stop things/pick faults.

    Aren't you being hypocritical?

To be consistent shouldn't you be condemning QLocal for highlighting this? According to you criticism of the Council just drives people away from our Town.

Personally I think valid criticism whether it's from local politicians or the media, is right and proper.

What about visitors arriving by train! The actual station concourse is nice and clean - and cleaned all the time but the bit by Wilkos and the shops is dreadful. Dirty, chewing gum littered and to top it all literally - water dripping from above.

A visitor remarked to me that it was her first visit and she was appalled and hoped the rest of town wasn't the same. She said the shops should clear it up - I say their rents are high enough so why should they do it!

When is this Park and Ride actually open?
The car parks page on the Sefton website doesn't work.
I've found one website that says its open Monday-Sunday in Summer, another that says it's open Saturdays and Sundays all year and another that says its only open on Sundays in summer!
I seem to recall that the latter is the case and with it being used so little surely this is prime land could be put to better leisure use.

I don't think I'm being hypocritical as I don't post the articles here or welcome them. I am expressing a view on what's presented. May I suggest you check your understanding of what hypocritical is. Your Lib Dem colleagues post many a negative article about the town/council from what I remember and seem to operate as trying to be the least worst option. I'd actually say you make the Lib Dem position seem hypocritical as it's one of consistently trying to hold the morale higher ground over the other parties, this is enforced to some extent that you can't readily reel of what our MP and councillor have achieved to earn their money paid for by the town.

As you run away from the question of whether you're a councillor or not I'll assume you are so maybe you need reminding:

The people of the town elect and pay your allowances to:

    1) represent their best interests
    2) represent the towns interest
    3) push the town forward

    Not:

    1) moan why they can't achieve something
    2) slam and blast without any alternative
    3) nitpick when the town clearly has bigger alternatives
    4) fight, argue and be generally uncooperative with colleagues
