Southport residents will be able to find out more about hundreds of volunteering opportunities across Sefton at a regular new event in the town.

As part of Sefton Council’s 2018 Year of the Volunteer initiative, The Atkinson and Volunteer Centre Sefton are launching a monthly drop-in service to alert people to how rewarding volunteering can be.

The first event takes place at The Atkinson library between 1.30pm and 4pm on Wednesday 15th August, and it will then run every third Wednesday of the month, at the same time and venue.

Volunteer Centre Sefton - which is part of Sefton CVS - has more than 40 years’ experience of helping local people to find the right volunteering roles, as well as offering advice to organisations who are looking to recruit volunteers.

Information on a wide range of opportunities will be available at the Southport drop-in event, from groups seeking green-fingered residents for gardening projects, to organisations looking for people who can support families in crisis or ex-offenders.

Rachael West, Sefton CVS Citizenship and Volunteer Worker, commented: “In an age where everything is going online, it’s good to know that there’s still a place you can go to talk to someone face to face about how you can give back to your community through volunteering, and there is an opportunity for everyone.

“We’re hoping for a very good turnout at this regular new event,” added Rachael. “Our message to all would-be volunteers is that communities across Sefton need your knowledge, skills and commitment.”
