A Ford Luton van suspected of being involved in flytipping has been seized.
A joint operation was carried out with Merseyside Police this morning, as part of the city’s ongoing war against people who commit environmental crime.
It follows the crushing of a similar vehicle earlier this month.
Councillor Steve Munby, Cabinet member for neighbourhoods, said: “We have been clear that we will seize all vehicles that we suspect to be involved in fly tipping and that’s what we are doing.
“We thoroughly investigate all reports we receive of fly tipping activity and take a proactive approach to detect and prosecute all offenders to the full extent of the law. Be advised, if you are a fly tipper you are a criminal – plain and simple. We will not stop fighting your illegal activities and have a number of ways to catch you including the use covert surveillance to gain evidence against you and put you before the courts.
“Residents should also be aware that if you use a ‘man and van’ to dispose of your waste and it ends up being fly tipped you can be criminally prosecuted also. Make sure that it is somebody who is properly licensed as waste carrier and will responsibly dispose of whatever you give them and they give you a receipt which has a note of the time, date and registration number of their vehicle.
“Liverpool City Council has excellent facilities for residents to dispose of most unwanted household items for free using their nearest Household Waste Recycling Centre or by using the Bulky Bobs service.”
Sergeant Phil Cowin from Merseyside Police added: “Merseyside Police continue to work with our partners and take positive action against criminals and their associates who are involved in illegal activities. In this case it is suspected that the vehicle was being used for Environmental Crime. Assisting Liverpool City Council to seize the vehicle demonstrates our strong partnership lead approach and we will use all available intelligence and information to bring offenders to justice”.
Anybody with information about fly-tippers should contact Liverpool City Council’s Street Scene Team in confidence on 0151 233 3001 – you don’t have to give your name or contact details.

Looks like a good van that, they should sell it instead of crushing it.

If the Taxi Truck is'nt found, then they could give it to Jeff,to save him from having to rent a temporary vehicle,as he is having to do now....Cannot believe the Police have not been able to trace the Taxi before now ? Not as though it is not recognisable having large wording stuck all over it.

They would have changed its colour and number plates by now. It is probably garaged at a safe house in Southport or nearby.
