Thousands of people flocked to Southport town centre for this year's Christmas lights switch on.

Lord Street was packed as the crowds were entertained with a celebration of the 1980’s and 90’s with a stomping set from ‘My Favourite Waste of Time’ singer Owen Paul belting out the biggest anthems of the 80’s, get your best Irish dance on with Edele from B*Witched and C’Est La Vie then East 17 who performed their number one hit one of the biggest and most enduring Christmas number ones ever - ‘Stay Another Day’!

It was a bit claustrophobic - everyone was funnelled into such a small area and the music was not exactly tuneful but the kids seemed to be having a good time.

Waste of time someone has already stolen the lights. I drove the full length of Lord St this morning and wondered why all this fuss for NOTHING.
