"Labour are now the only choice for tactical voters in Southport looking to defeat Thersa May, according to their parliamentary candidate, Liz Savage.
Labour doubled their vote in 2015 but the claim comes after recent indicators appeared to show a surge of support for them in the town.
"Can Labour win in Southport? It's a question I've been asked in the past but this campaign it's different. It's no longer asked forlornly, it's asked with a real sense of hope," says the 43-year-old, who runs a slimming consultancy in the town, "The reasons behind the change are varied but declining Lib-Dem support is very evident."
The breakdown of the recent Liverpool City Region Mayoral election figures for Southport indicated a strong surge in Labour support, with nearly 20 percent more votes than the Conservatives and over three times the votes of the Liberal Democrats.
"They've lost ground, both nationally and locally, because they helped usher in this period of brutal austerity through their coalition with the Tories," claims the mum-of-two, "There have been severe cuts to our health and education services, the consequences of which have become sharply apparent in Southport recently. Make no mistake, the threat to our local A&E Department has its roots in that coalition."
A recent opinion poll of Southport voters, carried out by the Liverpool Echo, has Labour tied with the Tories, both on 26.4 %, with the Lib-Dems a distant third on 12.7%. It's further proof, Liz Savage claims, that the tactical vote in Southport is no longer choosing the Lib-Dems but Labour:
"For Lib-Dems in Southport, it's time to decide. Do they want the Tories to win here? Do they want the continued rule of a Tory government that is causing so much division and hurt, or, do they want to choose Labour, which is promising much greater equality and a vision for our future they can share in? Your vote counts and the Labour vote now counts in Southport. If we win, you win."
The woman is deluded. Quoting that Echo "poll" as evidence that Labour is making great gains is ridiculous. It was a self-selected group of Echo readers from across the Socialist Republic of Merseyside with no attempt at balance in the demographic and no real relevance to Southport.
We have an uninspiring bunch of candidates, but this one takes the biscuit.

By making these ridiculous statements the only party Liz Savage is helping is the Conservatives. The Labour Party stands absolutely zero chance of winning this seat, so any Labour voter with any sense should opt for the lesser evil (in their eyes) of voting Lib Dem.
My prediction is that the Tories will defeat the Lib Dems with a smaller majority than the total number of votes cast for Labour.

Beware members of Green Party your leaders are advocating that you tactically cast your vote for the Liberals in Southport. A vote for the Liberal Party in Southport is a wasted vote, remember,
"Vote the Liberal way is the middle way to nowhere"

People in this town have been mindlessly tactically voting the Lib Dums in for years now. This has to change. All Labour voters MUST vote Labour to have any chance of getting into power.

People can vote whichever they choose - the priority is to ensure the best deal for the UK in breaking completely away from the EU. The electorate have to decide which potential leader has the determination, the strength of character and the will to make this happen. Two of the major parties have not recognised that the majority of the electorate are voting in the forthcoming election for this very reason and have gone to great pains to issue a detailed manifesto. Promises that sound fantastic - but which are full of hidden consequences that will cost the electorate dearly.
None of those promises - even if funds were found to activate them - would be worth a jot, unless the break from the EU is complete and allows the UK its Freedom.
A SOFT exit from the EU means that the UK will agree to several terms that the EU want in exchange for the UK having access to the single market. That could include the EU requesting control over various UK services in which they have an interest in at present such as Security, Education, The Media and Health Care. The EU would also demand Free Movement of Goods and People. The UK does not rely on the single market for goods, our trade with the single market has been annually decreasing. and also there are several European countries who trade with the EU who have not had to sign such agreements!
A HARD exit means that the EU must agree to the terms given by the elected British Prime Minister - an agreement that satisfies the needs of the UK completely without any compromise. Only one party promises that! Which Party has a potential leader, with support from their own Parliamentary Members, who could put forward the best case for the UK against tough negotiations? Jeremy Corbyn? Tim Fallon? Theresa May? Your choice!
