    Striker Ethan Jones Signs
19-year-old former Shrewsbury striker signs for the Sandgrounders.

Manager Alan Lewer has this evening confirmed the transfer of 19-year-old forward Ethan Jones as the club’s latest signing.

Most recently at Shrewsbury Town, Ethan also spent part of last season on loan at Tranmere Rovers and Stourbridge. Jones joins on a free transfer deal following the expiration of his contract at Shrewsbury.

Ethan made 5 appearances in League 1 during 2016/17, in addition to 1 appearance in both The FA Cup and The League Cup. He made 5 appearances on loan at Tranmere Rovers before Ethan went on to score 5 goals in 15 games for Stourbridge.

Speaking to southportfc.net, Alan Lewer said: “We’re very happy to welcome Ethan to the club and we know he’ll be a great signing for us. He’s got a real ability to turn defenders using his pace. He can play as a winger or as a traditional centre-forward and that gives us some real options when planning our attack.”

“He deserved to play more last season, and we’re hopeful we can help Ethan reach his potential. That would be great for him and great for the club.”

“We’re happy with the progress we’ve made so far on the squad. It’s never easy rebuilding an entire team, but the other side of that is I’ve got a blank canvass to make sure we do it properly and sign the right players.”

“We’re deep into discussions on our new first choice keeper and I think we’ll be able to announce that in the next few days”

Head of Development Mark Wright added: “Ethan joining the squad is another key contract for us. The market for players is always tight and always competitive but we’re taking a methodical approach, making sure we sign the right players and Ethan is absolutely a part of that.”

The names at the top may appear to have changed but the policy remains the same. Sign cheap nobodies from nowhere who have achieved nothing, stick them in a melting pot managed by another no-mark and hope that it all comes together. You couldn't make it up. A joke football club run by morons.
