A nice warm sunny afternoon on Lord Street and these street drinkers still continue to flout the no drinking rule.

With a full case of Fosters the pair got plastered at the Monument.

Recently Sefton Council introduced no drinking zones in Southport town centre.

The No Drinking Zones are designed to encourage more responsible drinking and ensure that the law-abiding majority can enjoy public spaces – safe from crime and anti-social behaviour.



This initiative demonstrates the Council’s commitment to residents and visitors so that everyone can have the peace and quiet they deserve to enjoy the places in which they live and work.

The areas will also help to improve the quality of life in local communities through the prevention of problems or nuisances.

The restricted sites are located in Southport, Formby, Crosby, Waterloo and Bootle and do not include any licensed premises.

The following roads are within the No Drinking Zones:

Southport Town Centre

The area bounded by Kings Gardens, Promenade, Seabank Road, Gordon Street, Lord Street, Union Street, Castle Street, Hill Street, Wright Street, London Street, Chapel Street, Tulketh Street, Bridge Street, Eastbank Street, Princess Street, Market Street, King Street, Duke Street, Morrison’s Car Park

So,,,,,who is there to stop them?

Maybe the area in unenforceable as it is bounded by a street that doesn't exist in this town.

... unless they fancy a bevvy in the sunshine. More authoritarianism. There are already laws to protect the public against the drunk and disorderly which are not enforced. This silly new by-law by our increasingly ridiculous Council is pointless.

I see plenty of "Plod" sat on their arses in cars many a time/day get out and "POLICE" shift them on, arrest them...... just do something.

If you go to the North End of Lord St nowadays its getting more and more unpleasant with scallies hanging around the Polish shop and cheap booze outlets. People going into the cafes and restaurants including myself have found the area rapidly going downhill.

It's no use having a "No Drinking" zone whatever you want to call it unless you enforce it????? Round em up and shift them out for Jesus Wept sake.

That is the "Posh"end of town now,with the Peaky Blinders,Punch Tarmey,The Bold Boutique Hotel etc etc,all situated at that end of Lord street,with most of the scallies as you call them NOT being able to afford to drink in any of them,hence them using the shops you mentioned for getting their alcoholic requirements,but are usually bought in "Bulk" by these people......I'm surprised they can buy so much as well ?

Well god forbid people going for a drink think that people having a drink are lowering the tone.

Making it a by-law moves it from a criminal offense to a civil offense so can be dealt with by enforcement officers as well as the police.

I haven't seen one sign saying it's forbidden to drink alcohol in these zones, maybe if the council put a few up as these people I should imagine have no access to the Internet and don't no ant different.

It is there land but they don't have planning approval for any seating. The area is supposed to be landscaped gardens not a drinking area.
