Southport are back in action at the Merseyrail Community Stadium this Saturday as Leamington make the trip from Warwickshire.

The Sandgrounders were unfortunate not to come away from last week’s clash at FC United of Manchester with at least a point, having dominated the majority of the game without quite being able to force an equaliser.

A similar performance in front of home fans on Saturday would stand them in good stead to secure three more invaluable points in their quest to recover from a disastrous run of form that has left them just one point outside the relegation zone.

This is the first of three home matches within the next month before two key away matches against strugglers Gainsborough Trinity and North Ferriby United, and it is vital that Kevin Davies’ men build some momentum going into those clashes.

Leamington come into the match on the back of three successive draws, and sit just two points ahead of Southport albeit with a game in hand.

This, therefore, is an ideal opportunity for the Sandgrounders to start climbing the table and reduce the pressure going into February’s clashes with the National League North’s bottom two.
