Two of the most iconic hotels in Southport the Prince of Wales and the Scarisbrick are still getting terrible reviews on travel websites.

Guests staying at the Prince of Wales over the festive period have commented...

"We visited for a Christmas break and was very disappointed. Food was very basic, bland with not much choice. No waiter service , poor old people with walking difficulties had to self serve themselves with boiling hot soup"

"If you want a decent breakfast, go across the road to Wetherspoons.

Uncooked sausage. Burnt bacon. Cold coffee. Stodgy croissant. Soggy toast. No jam or marmalade".

"I suppose if you are only paying £50 a night you shouldn’t expect too much, but what was once Southport’s premier hotel has really fallen on hard times."

"Staff were rude to guests and bickering among themselves .
Very dated and needs a total uphaul "

There are a few positive comments though includung...

    "Truly fabulous
Yes this hotel isn’t 5*service, yes it does need updating. But this hotel has charm a wonderful feeling and character!! If your looking for a unique hotel experience and a quirky short break be sure to reside at the Prince of Wales Southport"

The Scarisbrick also gets a lot of flack from guests.

"the worst hotel ever. The whole ordeal from start to finish was a nightmare, room filthy tv not working properly, dog doo doo on landing, plaster coming of the walls in room"

    "Dreadful hotel
Stayed here 1 night, parking shocking. Room 132 was the worst room we have ever stayed in, bathroom floor tiles missing,"

    "No sleep - Awful
Kept awake until the early hours by night club music down stairs,"

Just yards from both these hotels is the Vincent which appears to be doing considerably better judging by the reviews.

    "Excellence with northern hospitality
Top location on lord street. Modern sophisticated hotel .exellent service from the minute we arrived. Valet parking . Porter assistance "

"Enjoyed the Festive Menu - crisply roasted pots accompanied my bird"

"Modern hotel in central position with comfortable rooms and a comfortable bed. Felt welcome on arrival."

Some people still need to complain though...

"Not as good as it used to be
food was cold and came out at all different times,we had a table of 15, never the same members of staff serving you,and just not as nice as the Liverpool one. A bit pretentious. You feel left out if a famous footballer walks in"

Councillor Barton seems happy with Brittania Hotels, if this is the case what is the standard of the Family Care Home?

Both these establishments are relics of a bygone age. They are an embarrassment to the town. Complete dumps.

.I don't know how it is that any Britannia hotel still gets guests.
It would appear that there are still people who don't know about, or don't read, hotel reviews.
Neither of the Southport hotels will get better. Britannia do not make investments.
The Vincent, in my opinion, is way-over-rated, and too pleased with itself.

At least the Scarisbrick verandah is renovated to the highest standards possible.

From elsewhere on this site..."Conservation reaches completion on Lord Street. Many appreciations to the exceptional Property Owners and Management Teams for having now undertaken extensive restoration works on their Verandahs at "The Scarisbrick Hotel" here in the Southport Town Centre. Once again it is a true delight to see another business improving our local environment for both local residents and visitors to behold.

Having continued to directly liaise myself with the Management Team since the Summer of 2014 I am delighted to have now secured the support of "Britannia Hotels" for this successive grand restoration project, who also appreciate my modus operandi of operating on a basis of mutual respect & sincerity in order to achieve the best outcome for everyone.

Despite having been subject to rather harsh and inappropriate criticism from Opposition Councillors I should actually like to commend this Establishment which is not only taking a civic pride in a long cherished Building that has graced our beloved local high street since 1890, but for continuing to support our local economy through choosing to preserve and utilise a pre-existing building of local and historical significance."

Is it me or are these 2 stories not quite consistent?

Perhaps he should “do his bird” in a Brittania Hotel. He might just change his mind.

Because some people just require a cheap room for the night.

Lets be honest with ourselves the Britannia Group hit the demographics of the majority of visitors to our town spot on.
