Thousands of Southport residents suffer with some form of arthritis. MP Damien Moore joined some of those who live with the condition after the launch of a new report by Arthritis Research UK.

Damien said: ‘Over 5000 of our town’s residents live with osteoarthritis of the hip; over 8000 with osteoarthritis of the knee - and over 17,000 with back pain.

‘I wanted to show my support for them and hear about the help that makes a difference to their lives.’

The new report looks at the provision of aids and adaptations for people with arthritis, which include grab rails, raised toilet seats, and non-slip shower mats. Research suggests these help sufferers lead more independent lives - and may reduce the risk of more expensive formal care.

Damien added: ‘Aids and adaptations in the home can help people to remain independent for longer, and I want to make sure that people with arthritis in our town know about the support on offer. I urge people to reach out to Arthritis Research UK for expert information, help and advice.’
