Merseyside Police have issued the following statement regarding rough sleepers on the streets of Southport.



Over the coming days we will post details of the full range of services available over the Christmas period if you see someone on the streets or sleeping rough in Southport.

*COLD WEATHER SHELTER – OPEN AT TIMES OF EXTREME COLD WEATHER*
THE ECO CENTRE, THE ESPLANADE FROM 10:00PM – This service opens tonight, Friday 14th December, and is available to those who are unable to use the sit up services available for some reason. Individuals found sleeping on the streets in toilets, doorways or tents can use this service should they wish.

THE COLD WEATHER SHELTER WILL BE OPEN XMAS EVE AND XMAS DAY IRRESPECTIVE OF WEATHER CONDITIONS.

OUT OF HOURS ‘SIT-UP’ SERVICE FOR HOMELESS/ROUGH SLEEPERS IS AT:
‘NEW START’, 40-42 LEYLAND ROAD. Tel: 01704 547741.
This service is open 365 days a year.
Places available from 8:00PM on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.
“You will be safe, warm and given a mat and sleeping bag. There are shower facilities and hot food/drinks until 08:00AM the next morning.”

Please pass this information to anyone you see sleeping rough on the streets of the town, so they aware of the places they can go for shelter.

Great to see the "ECO" centre being used for something useful for a change. Beats the usual pointless propoganda outfit.
