As Southport starts voting in the nation's EU debate, the town's elected
councillors have come out overwhelmingly in favour of remaining in the
European Union.
Asked a question during the public question session of the June meeting of
Southport Area Committee, as to which option was best for Southport,
Councillors Sue McGuire and Tony Dawson both spoke at length as to why they
believed that Southport and Britain would both be better off staying in the
EU.
Cllr McGuire made plain that neither she nor any of the councillors
concerned wanted to tell anyone how to vote. That was for the individuals
to make up their mind. She reminded the Committee of the investment which
the EU had made in Merseyside, particularly Southport's sea wall.
Cllr Dawson referred to the big economic questions where most of the people
voting did not have personal knowledge of the detailed reasons why
Britain's economy would be affected this way or that. Every opinion which
we have, he said, is based upon who we choose to believe. He pointed out
that Boris Johnson, leader of the Brexit campaign had been thrown out of
the Shadow Cabinet following an act of dishonesty and he had been sacked
from the Time newspapers for lying. He showed continued disrespect for the
truth as had been shown in his recent false 'bent bananas' episode.
Councillor Richard Hands, Chair of the Area Committee asked all Southport
Councillors present to show how they felt inclined to vote. All those
choosing to express a view said "Remain" with a handful choosing to not
express a view either way. Councillor Harry Bliss explained that he would
be happy to express his view but as Chair of Southport Conservatives he was
not allowed to do so publicly

Even by his standards the comments of Cllr Tony "prasnee" Dawson are breathtakingly arrogant.
When he says that "most of the people voting did not have personal knowledge of the detailed reasons why Britain's economy would be affected this way or that" what he really means is that you peasants out there are too thick too understand what you're voting for.
And pompous buffoons like this wonder why they are held in such utter contempt!

Isn't that rather like the USSR and Communists on the whole? They (Those in power) decided that the people didn't know enough to decide who should run the country. So what next Tony. Those in power (That means those with money or able to apply pressure) will decide who runs both the local councils, and national government. It has already started, when you (The councilors) decided that we (The electors) didn't know enough to be asked whether we should join this so called Greater Liverpool. We simply woke up one morning and found that we were about to have another layer of government imposed on us. So, we are to thick to understand, but not thick enough to be forced to pay for it.

That's because they are all Lib Dem and as we know they are wetter than a haddock's speedos!

Has Cllr Dawson ever worked in business? Not sure why he's treating himself as a self-styled expert. The patronising nature of some of our under-performing councillors is something truly to behold.
Ultimately no one knows the outcome of leave other than varying degrees of educated guess. Remain is deciding whether you're happy with your lot and don't want to gamble. A councillor is in no way better placed to advise than any other member of the town.
Maybe as we have to put up with Cllr Dawson for another 5 years he could use some lessons learned from both campaigns for his next southport out if Sefton bid as those campaigns have been woefully weak.

One man one vote, isn't it? Don't give a monkey's what they as individuals vote! They clearly do NOT represent ALL the residents of Sefton!

It was the Lib Dems that tried to use their position in the last government to block the referendum. Seems even then they decided we, the voters shouldn't be allowed to make such important decisions.

Correct, but do you not realise, 'they' think it does; it makes 'them' feel important or was that impotent After all, they are LibDums, they always feel that way.

It's all gone quiet over there.
I wonder how the pompous buffoon himself is feeling this morning. How about it, Tony? Cat got your tongue?

He's on the other site blaming Cameron and Corbyn....surprisingly no blame heads the Libs way as usual as they're faultless....
Maybe some our our Libs will bow out with Cameron as their big campaign they wanted drew at very slim majority, which you could read into:
1) Liverpool strong-ish majority to stay
2) West Lancs strong majority to go
3) Libs tell us that southport relates more to W lancs and bootle to Liverpool
4) maybe bootle labour led a better campaign than the news rag they put out trying to claim Mark Carney is a successful Brit and buzzwords about "think about the children"

Welcome back, thought you'd given up after skulking away from the last few threads.
But before I respond, why do the Libs thinks it's all Cameron and corbyn's fault but no blame to themselves?

Do they think that? Cameron obviously carries a lot of the blame for proposing the referendum. In the case of Corbyn it would be the half-hearted leadership on this issue, as senior Labour people like Dame Margaret Hodge MP said. According to the BBC she said "Mr Corbyn should resign because the EU referendum had been a "test of leadership" that he had "failed"." See http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-36621777
So where exactly did the Lib Dems "tell us that Southport relates more to W lancs and Bootle to Liverpool"?

Lib dem Deputy Leader and health spokesman for southport:
"Democracy involves the right tomake terrible decisions based upon lies - and theoretically take responsibility for them. In this case, however, the poor people who will mostly pick up the tabs for this were not allowed the vote. And the dishonest clown who led this lunacy benefits massively. David Cameron has a lot to answer for"
And
"The campaign led by a monstrous narcissitic liar telling different lies to different people succeeded. The 'Remain' campign was pretty useless. Cameron put his party above his country by refusing to debate the issue directly with the dishonest Tories, Corbyn and the Labour Party centrally were hopeless. More interested in remaining 'apart' from Cameron than presenting any kind of united front. The result overall was pretty predictable although the Sefton Borough voted to Remain."
Don't see any Lib Dem accountability despite saying they'd campaign too?

But in what way does that support what you said, which was that "the Libs thinks it's all Cameron and corbyn's fault but no blame to themselves"?
What you quoted actually says "The 'Remain' campaign was pretty useless" and the Lib Dems were part of that campaign.
Do you have difficulty understanding English?
Anyway, having answered your (rather irrelevant) question which you prefaced by "But before I respond, ...", would you now please respond to my question asking you on what you base the following claim:

Or did you, as per usual, simply make that up?
