After the recent surface dressing of many routes in Southport local drivers are up in arms over the terrible state the roads have been left in.

Much of the gravel has not bonded and is now spread all over the town.

    Local drivers have said...

The gravel has started forming into "drifts" and it is a serious danger at T-junctions
( eg. sudden wheelspin , from nowhere ).
Flying gravel from "tyre spray" damages windscreens and paintwork of other vehicles ,
and it's none too pleasant for cyclists either !

Meols Cop Rd,Town Lane to name a couple of more roads, they seem WORSE now than they were before the roads were resurfaced.Could cause a few cracked windscreens if the roads are left much longer

I often use Town Ln/Southbank Rd and have found that between Loxley Rd and Cemetery Rd it is simply a mess. Generous helpings of overly large stone chips, with apparently insufficient 'sticky stuff' to glue it all down. Result is new surface now peeling away in strips....I'd be pig sick about it if I lived along there!

    Pictures show Southbank Road.

Typical of Sefton council, buy cheap and pay twice. Same thing happened on Pinfold Lane and had to be done again a few months later.

happening on nearly every road that was re surfaced last summer. terrible workmanship or just a cheap job actioned by the council

The road was resurfaced September, and is now in a far worse condition. I do hope the contractors were not paid for such shoddy workmanship. Or are we the tax payer having to pay twice.

Why not just do half the roads but do a proper job oh hang on that would make too much sense ! hang on this is Sefton

Over 30 years ago the council took up our wonderful tiled pavement and replaced it with horrible concrete paving. The new drop curbs were set about an inch above the road surface. When we queried this we were told it was to allow for the imminent resurfacing of the road. We are still waiting our resurfacing, but from the above we may be better off not getting it.

As a short term measure the council put tarmac across each drive to act as a ramp.
The part of the ramp where the tyres go over it have long since gone, but the middle bits remain. These prevent rain water from draining so we have little bed of weeds between our drives, very picturesque.

Which of these is the odd one out ?
Santa Claus / a Sefton Planner / the Tooth Fairy/ David Barton

Answer: - David Barton ... he exists, the others are all mythical beings.

British workmanship at its best, the Romans built better roads than us.

The Council is guilty of short termism, but there's nothing new in that. The trouble with quick fixes is that you have to keep repeating them.

Has any one been down Fylde Road recently, its terrible, loose chippings all over the road and gathered into piles on corners. Its disgraceful, would not like to ride my motorbike down there. A good chance of sliding off it and doing a lot of damage to the bike and me. They usually send a suction lorry along when they're done but no sign of one and its been like that for weeks.

Well there's medicine, wine, public order, irrigation, and public health. But apart from that, what have the Romans ever done for us?

Sorry people, this is what you get with Government cuts. Every time you whine about repairing Kings Gardens or whine when they want to close a library, remember that this is what happens. They have to cut costs somewhere. Mind you, you are from Southport. Whining and blaming others is a local trait. You wouldn't know what to do with nothing to whine about.

Hope you are nothing to do with the great Zico, probably not. Anyway "Whining and blaming others is a local trait" no it's a NATIONAL problem, by the way you missed the weather off your list!
