What’s in a name?
Moves to name Southport's newest pub The Mad Duke were dropped after a local woman contacted Marston’s to put them right!
And as The Old Duke opened this morning, Fran. Sutton told of how she appreciated the gesture by the East Midland's brewers who gave the Kew hostelry a more fitting name.
And for good measure they invited her husband Paul, the sixth time removed great grandson of William 'Duke' Sutton, to open the pub which represents a sizeable investment by the company; he's pictured pulling the first pint.
They've done a marvellous job with the newcomer that boasted a full car park this afternoon as thirsty - and curious - locals visited to see more.
Manager Mark Toft is pictured seventh from left with staff 'called to the bar' while Paul, Fran. and friend Eddie are pictured after enjoying a celebratory coffee.

Have never had a bad meal at the Guelder Rose and believe me I complain a lot if served poor food. Is it A Là Carte, no, but then it's not those prices either. Looking forward to trying the new place.

Looks like only one real ale. The Guelder Rose has three.
You'd think a company the size of Marstons would want to promote their beer.

Of course it's shocking,???? that's why the pub is always reasonably busy, don't know what you expect have always found the meals and service to be good, in truth at their prices very good.
