Sir Ken Dodd, creator of the Diddy Men and one of the most popular comedians of his time, has died aged 90.

The Liverpool legend had recently been released from hospital after six weeks of treatment for a chest infection.

On Friday, he had married Anne Jones, his partner of 40 years, at their house, the same one he grew up in, in the Liverpool suburb of Knotty Ash.

"He passed away in the home that he was born in over 90 years ago. He's never lived anywhere else. It's absolutely amazing,"

Sir Ken was a frequent visitor to Southport and opened the refurbished Lord Street area in 2008.

Watched by hundreds of spectators, Ken Dodd performed the 'Opening' of the Newly Refurbished Lord Street.

Introduced to the crowd of onlookers by Seftons Mayor, Paul Tweed, Ken delighted the audience with his 'off the cuff' quips.

    The Plaque is unveiled.

Ken Dodd plays to the Audience, including all the spectators in the Solicitors Offices.

Cheques for £1,000 each were presented to Queenscourt Hospice (accepted by Dr Downham) and the Clatterbridge Hospital.

    RIP Sir.

"I used to think I was marvellous in bed until I discovered that all my girl friends suffered from asthma."

"The man who invented cats' eyes got the idea when he saw the eyes of a cat in his headlights. If the cat had been going the other way, he would have invented the pencil sharpener."

"I haven't spoken to my mother-in-law for 18 months. I don't like to interrupt her."
"It's ten years since I went out of my mind. I'd never go back."

"I've seen a topless lady ventriloquist. Nobody has ever seen her lips move."

A true legend; his like will never been seen again.
    RIP

I went to one of his shows in the late 1970s absolutely miserable and fed up with horrendous things that were happening in my life at that time.
Guess how long it took to change the way I felt - yes, in a matter of minutes I had put it behind me and laughed with everybody else.

Saw him several times after that - what enormous talent and a singer as opposed what passes for one these days. How could you not feel better after hearing him sing ‘Happiness’ ?

His funeral must not be a mourning at his death but a celebration of a life that touched so many people who were distressed and made them feel a lot better.
