With reports of a Councillor and several Southport businesses wanting to hire what has been called a "Private Army" dressed in high visibility jackets and driving high visibility vehicles to tackle anti social behavior in the town due to the lack of Police.
Outside Southport Police Station this afternoon there were seven high visibility Police cars presumably driven by seven high visibility Police officers.
These vehicles need to be out on patrol not parked on double yellow lines.
Park a Police vehicle in the Kings Gardens and the vandalism will reduce dramatically.
Seven Police cars sat there doing nothing is nothing short of criminal.

roving-eye - words almost fail me!
I wonder if these Officers were attending a briefing, collecting equipment or colleagues, carrying out a training exercise?
Did you ask, did you check - of course you didn't - that's what proper journalists does.
As for the double yellow lines aspect - many of our allegedly disabled residents park in far more obstructive positions on a daily basis in the town centre.

I would suggest there was no one to take them out following years of govt. cut backs Police numbers are vastly reduced can't you get your brain around that. Why not support the few who are left and use your journalistic skills to stalk another organisation.

Surely Emergency Services,Police, must stop park, wherever is needed,
Imagine a Heart Attack Victim on Lord St and Emergency Services Looking for Parking Space,
I checked and we have spoken about this before and Vehicles are allowed to park and at least when the emergency comes, they dont have to run to Park and Ride to collect car,
Lets hope we all have a safe night,

I think the point trying to be made is that we don't see Police patrols anymore, it's purely a reactive service these days, has been for a while now.

Hang on a minute, I thought the current moronic mantra that we were supposed to follow was that the police station had closed down and that there are no police in Southport...

There was an RTC at the junction of Dodsworth and Haig Avenue, involving my neighbour,at around the same time that this post was added, and still NO Police had turned up at 3.00pm,almost half an hour AFTER the incident.
The driver, who was male, and around 5' 8' tall, with dark hair, wearing blue jeans and t-shirt,who had caused the RTC had ran away from the scene heading towards the Park n Ride area of High Park. Also spoke with an Irish accent, according to a witness of the RTC,so no guesses about him NOT being a traveller
Makes you wonder why we phone the Police if they are not going to attend ?
As yet the offending driver has NOT been found, according to the other website which has the report of the incident.

What's your point roving-eye?
As has already been said, did you check what the officers where up to? I'll answer that - NO YOU DIDN'T......
What you actually did is drive by and take a dodgy pic from inside your car, cos you haven't got the balls to get out and take a real journalistic photo - like all your cowardly reports on here.
Why would parking a police car in Kings gardens make any difference to vandalism? It wouldn't be any deterrent at all. On the other hand, you'd be the first to report a waste of police resources that could be better used elsewhere.....damned if they do, damned if they don't.
Time for you to retire.

As the Police in Southport, DO NOT have 9 Police Officers to patrol Southport on a single shift, may I suggest there are insufficient Police Officers to drive the police vehicles, photographed outside the Police Station.
My only criticism would be, they should park in the empty car park at the rear of the station, Especially the Van on double yellow lines, which parks on that spot often, as that doesn't portray a good image or example to members of the public.

A Police Officer may Park anywhere they feel necessary during the course of their duties as they work for the Crown. However they may not park their vehicles where restrictions are in place for the safety of other drivers when they are not pursuing their duties.
Sefton Councils Head of Parking could have built good relations with the Police when Parking services was set up. Instead he chose to prosecute his own agenda of booking the Police Cars & private vehicles{which were parked illegally at the time} alienating the Police & Parking attendants.
The Police have been informed that they may not leave their vehicles on double yellows outside the station but they continue to flout the laws they are sworn to uphold.

I'm sure we'd rather they were all parked here than in Bootle. Perhaps changing the double yellows to hatched 'police only' areas would make it appear more proper, but I'd say it'd be a waste of money.

I think more support for the police would be more constructive than these constant moans.
They are doing a vital job. They are working for all members of the community.
These officers OFTEN put their lives on the line for us and here you are moaning about parking police cars.
Support them, protect them, thank them.
