The emergency services are at the scene of a serious accident involving several cars and a cyclist on Preston New Road.

Several people are thought to be injured.

Traffic is being diverted.

ROAD CLOSURES: 9:55PM Thursday 8th November.

Due to a serious road traffic collision, PRESTON NEW ROAD in Southport remains closed between the PLOUGH ROUNDABOUT to the junction with FYLDE ROAD while the investigation into the collision continues. This closure is likely to remain in place for at least another 2 hours, until midnight.

Drivers travelling north on Preston New Road towards Preston should turn right at the mini roundabout onto North Road and then left onto Rufford Road, which will take them to the Plough Roundabout.

The road closures will be lifted as soon as possible. Thank you for your co-operation.

Heard from a customer that the cyclist was taken to Walton Hospital,and was being operated on during most of Saturday,suffered serious injuries to arms,back and legs
