Sefton Council is seeking views on its proposals to implement licensing of private landlords across parts of the borough.



The results and final recommendations will then be reported back later in the year for a Cabinet decision.

Any licensing scheme that could be introduced would require all private landlords, who rent out a residential property within a proposed area, to apply for either a selective, or for those renting a house with multiple occupants, an additional licence for each property that they rent.


Clare Taylor, Sefton Council’s Housing Standards manager, said: “Licensing schemes aim to improve the management of privately rented properties to ensure that they have a positive impact on an area.

“This consultation will allow us to see if all parties think that the proposed licensing schemes would be appropriate. If you have a view – we want to hear from you.”

The consultation period ends on Saturday, 24 June, 2017.

This will also hit people who rent out a single property. My mother-in-law rented her home out to help pay her care home fees (she was still £5k pa short which we we had to pay).

I think different rules & requirements should apply to people letting a single property to those running a business.
