The decision of the controlling Labour Group to block a request for a People’s Vote over Brexit left campaigners dismayed when they attended Thursday night’s Sefton Council meeting held at Southport Town Hall.

Seaforth resident and NHS worker Carla Burns addressed the Council meeting in support of a petition, signed by over 600 people. In it she called for Sefton Council to support a People's Vote on the final Brexit Deal which includes an option to remain in the EU.

Lib Dem councillor Daniel Lewis, supported by his Lib Dem colleagues, proposed that the Council should support the terms of the petition. However every single member of the controlling Labour Group, together with the Conservatives, voted this down.

Following the meeting Carla Burns expressed her anger, tweeting: “I want politicians who will put country before party – I will not vote Labour whilst they facilitate Brexit.”

How on earth can we have a second vote, to determine what ?

Everyone was well informed by the remain side of the campaign about the risks and yet the majority still voted to leave.

Despite this vote the people who lost want a rerun that includes overturning a leave vote.

The only possible peoples vote question should be, do you want to leave with or without this deal.

The remoaners can then form their own party and seek election on a return to the EU mandate.

We voted to leave so let’s get on with it. Local councils and councillors have no remit to call for an other vote.

What on earth has this got to do with Sefton Council????
We've already had a "people's vote" on 23rd June 2016 and the result was for the UK to leave the EU.
The UK IS leaving the EU on 29th March 2019.
    END OF STORY!!!

With the way things are going it's far from end of story, no idea how this thing is going to pan out, but it's already clear that not leaving the EU is back on the agenda, mainly for the fairly obvious reasons that hardly anyone supports the deal, unless of course you fancy just stepping out and cut all links to Europe, that could be interesting to say the least, when gas stops flowing, when France won't supply electrical energy when we are short, the options are endless.

    So project fear based on entirely groundless claims is alive and kicking;

gas and electric will stop flowing because we wouldn't be part of the EU,

all links with Europe will be cut ?

really they want to lose trade which is worth £341 Billion ?

yet strangely the EU negotiators have just signed up to a draft free trade agreement did you miss it ? definitely been on the news this week.

Well it isn't Liverpool their doing well and Brexit will bring fantastic opportunities for them which is why Peel has voted with its pocket and invested £400 million and in case you haven't noticed the EU has agreed to a tariff free trade deal with us, which is in contrast to your stupid remoaner tariff suggestions.

Britain is on the cusp of a boom.
