To mark the launch of our new Sefton Circular cycle route, we are holding a cycling day to promote the route and encourage more people to jump on their bike and explore Sefton.
The cycle ride will have three main start points to enable people to access the ride – Formby Railway Station/Mecycle Café, Ainsdale and the main focal point of the day, Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre.
Ride registration will take place at 10am at each of the three start points, ride leaders will be on hand to start you off on the route, riders will then be free to cycle the route in a clockwise direction at their own pace; the theme of the day is participation, therefore we are encouraging riders to cycle the entire route, however if you only want to ride a section before returning by bike or train then the choice is yours.
Although the ride will be self-led, all riders when setting off will receive a map of the route, including turn by turn directions, there will be directional markers along the route and we will have some cycling marshals patrolling the route too.
Members of The Active Travel Team will be at Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre all day to hand out further information on cycling and walking in Sefton. Crosby Lakeside will act as the focal point for the day, it’s the perfect point for people to stop, take a rest, have a snack and chat to members of the Active Travel Team, before continuing on their ride.
The launch of the route coincides with ‘2017 the year of Sefton’s Coast’, a celebration campaign to recognise, promote and enjoy the superb Sefton Coastline; the Sefton Circular route takes in many miles of the coastal path, before heading inland along the Cheshire Lines towards Maghull and eventually the Leeds Liverpool canal, bringing you back to Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre via Rimrose Valley.
All riders will receive a map of the route, a bottle of water, an energy bar and medal for taking part.
If you are interested in attending on the day, registration for the ride is open NOW!
When registering, if you could provide riders name(s), postcode and preferred starting point, this would help us greatly to manage numbers on the day. Register HERE
