A private security firm were busy training dogs on Lord Street Southport today 20th October.
Several types of dog were being trained by he handlers.
The handlers were dressed in a uniform that resembled that of a Police Officer even though they have no powers.
A local Councillor and several businesses have vowed to bring in a private security firm to tackle anti social behavior in the town.
The Police and the Council say there is no need for a Private Army to patrol the streets.

I wondered why there were so many Dog Handlers & on vans on B&M carpark. They do look like Police Officers at first glance but it's obvious they aren't!

They should be arrested for impersonating Police Officers. I'm sure if they were to target vulnerable people those people may have trouble distinguishing between the actual Police Form and this gang of pathetic jokers.

I hope this is nothing to do with that unstable nutcase in his old Vauxhall.
Actually, it's quite concerning about all these private security forces suddenly coming out of nowhere. Firstly there's Cllr Barton's 'Battle' crowd, the SERT nutter and now this lot. Can anyone please explain who is paying for them and why? They're not doing it out of the goodness of their own hearts and their services won't come cheap. Clearly they have no powers so what will they do? Are they there to simply scare the gullible and naive?

Basically ,like security guards they are professional witnesses. They have no powers to stop & search but lets be honest, the Government are underfunding the Police so there is no visible presence on our streets & an emergency call out can take as long as it takes to travel halfway across the County. Dependant on how the SERT go about their duties will depend on how much respect they are show because there isn't a lot of love for them at the moment.

I can see this all ending very badly.
I can see them being part of the problem rather than the solution.

Walked past this today, quite interesting to watch, cute little dog too.
I was worried my mug shot was going to be on here though as soon as I spotted the photographer!

Not true.
Policing should be done by the police.
With dog's they are basically armed.

The only people to fear are the ones dismantling the Country bit by bit, if the Police are going the same way as the NHS God help us!

To a certain extent yes. But frankly the Police have been caught out by the now Prime Minister. For years telling us crime was falling but expecting the same budgets and in some cases wanting more whilst flatly refusing to modernise. It's hardly surprising the majority of Police services have had their wings clipped.
This is the result of years of officers signing off jobs as NFA or putting them down as Sus circs without getting to the bottom of what has gone on. Thus distorting the figures.
And the Police 'cuts cry' is a poor one, just about every level of Government including the military and nearly all private businesses have had to make cuts for us to stay afloat. The simple answer is pay more tax.
Some towns around the UK have adopted these private security companies and in some of those cases the Councils are contributing to the funding.
Southport has never been a Town of change, but it will come.
