Scarisbrick Hall Heritage Day opens at Scarisbrick Hall, on Saturday 10am - 4pm, and it's an an opportunity for the whole community to come and explore this local landmark.
The Scarisbrick Hall Trust is opening the doors to this wonderful building to reveal a day jam-packed full of free activities for kids and families as well as events exploring the rich history of the Hall.
The Trust exists to preserve and maintain the rich heritage of Scarisbrick Hall and make it accessible to the whole community through the Arts and creative activity. Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, it's now undertaking significant restoration work to key elements of the building as well as embarking on a new programme of activities and events to involve the whole local community.
The Hall - a large Gothic-style mansion built between 1830 and 1860 and designed by A.W.N. Pugin - was home to the Scarisbrick family for over 700 years and today is the site of Scarisbrick Hall School.
Saturday's heritage day is the first opportunity for the public to explore the building since the reopening of the school and is supported by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Scarisbrick Hall is a piece of nationally significant heritage and full of fascinating stories that are waiting to be told! Open to all, the Heritage Day will include a performance from the local Tick Tock Community Choir, exhibitions from local artists and makers including Swarbrick Maps, a variety of creative activities for children, as well as tours from Lancashire Gardens Trust.
“We are delighted to be able to open the doors of Scarisbrick Hall to the local community, following the restoration of significant elements of the buildings. We are now ready to embark on a new journey for Scarisbrick Hall and Scarisbrick Hall Trust that ensures that the wider community is fully engaged. Our unified aim is to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to share in this unique heritage asset, enabling them to learn from the rich cultural history of the Hall and School,” Mike Headley, Trust Director told QLocal.
This event will mark the beginning of a new era for the role of Scarisbrick Hall in the community, working to share together in our local history and the stories this magnificent building holds.
Activities on the day will include:
• Local History from Ormskirk Historical Society
• Fun Activities for children
• Tours of the grounds by Lancashire Garden’s Trust
• Performances by the Tick Tock Community Choir
• Craft activities
• An exhibition of work by local artist Gerard Swarbrick.
