Southport Rubbish Friends are out on Sat 21st Jan at 10:30am to tackle the litter under the Pier-volunteers welcome.
Councillor Sue McGuire explained
"This area is difficult to get to and is outside the normal Council
cleansing schedule but its very visible to people on the Pier or visiting
Ocean Plaza and in its current state doesn't give a very good impression of
Southport".
Councillor Pat Keith added "Rubbish Friends always try to clean up this
area before the plants start to grow otherwise it becomes quite difficult"
Rubbish Friend Lorraine Cookson added "There is
such a lot of litter here it really will be a case of the more the merrier
so anyone who would like to help will be made very welcome."
Rubbish Friends will be meeting at 10:30am by the entrance to the Miniature
Railway.
Equipment and gloves will be provided.

It would surely be much simpler to fit some tall close mesh fencing around the skate park to prevent all the litter being thrown over from there.

.....or close the Skate Park for say 30 days, open it up, if litter appears again, close the park again

Putting a higher fence up may help with the litter problems, but have the users pay an entrance fee to gain access to use the skatepark,as it would help to pay for the fence, and also go towards the clearing up.
Charge them say £2.00 to use it,as regular maintenance work must be done to the park,to help with the upkeep of any repairs and remedial work to the park itself.
Better idea imo would be to close the skatepark.....permanently...........as it looks an eyesore for the visitors to the town

There won't be much left for maintenance once you've employed someone to man the gate and take payment 365 days of the year from dawn to dusk.
Would you apply to logic to other parks such as Hesketh Park? If not, why not?

A mechanical payment machine at the entrance to the skatepark,to help towards paying for the upkeep. And as for other parks as in The Botanic and Hesketh Park, these are classed as "Public" so are Free to enter. And both are maintained by council employees, and occasionally volunteers, and the council get money from people owning/running the Cafe, and getting money by way of their rents etc.
