Following the announcement that Jonathan Parry has been dismissed as chief executive of Southport and Ormskirk NHS Hospital Trust for gross misconduct, West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper said:
"Having read the hospital trusts statement, Jonathan Parry's dismissal isn't really a shock. Reading there were 21 allegations of misconduct with seven counts of gross misconduct is shocking however.
"Without knowing the details of the investigation it appears only the willingness of whistleblowers to speak out brought this behaviour to an end. Coming forward couldn't have been easy.
"After a year-long investigation there are many questions people have about the length of time and cost and these questions will be asked.
"However, now the decision has been taken it is important the hospital trust gets a new talented chief executive. One committed to the interests of West Lancashire patients and with a passion to deliver the best quality health care for this community.
"We know there are major financial and organisational challenges facing our NHS and I want to work with the new chief executive and their new executive team to protect our local hospital services."
Sometimes I wonder just how these establishments manage to function as successfully as they do after the (supposed) Chief Execs have been suspended for so long.
The people taking up the slack must be praised for keeping 'operations' moving and successfully running the 'business' without the 'driver'!
I hope they get the recognition that they deserve.

I cannot understand why it has taken over twelve months to investigate the allegations against Parry, given that they had already suspended him. Surely this whole sorry affair could have been wrapped up in a much shorter timescale, thus saving the NHS many hundreds of thousands of £'s.

Serious misconduct, yes well let me see what could they be.... Since no patient safety or medical issue has so far been disclosed then what?
Well a year ago when this blew up I spoke to someone who worked at NHS Southport on whether they knew of what he had been nobbled for on the hush hush so to speak and the topic of "procurement" of goods and services was mentioned.
Might seem far fetched but you know along the lines of a loaf of bread charged by the producer for 70p but getting a £1 in return or bigger it seems and not just bread.
Now, if this has no relevance or merit then fine and i'm rabbiting on. But if the thread of comments is "Closed" down........ could be nearer the truth than we think???
