The very first Ormskirk Gingerbread Festival Day takes place on Saturday 30th July. The Mayor of West Lancs Cllr. Liz Savage will perform the opening ceremony at 10.00am and she will be assisted by Don Evans, the Town Crier.
What’s On
Shops and stalls will be decorated with a Gingerbread theme and plenty of entertainment will be provided in the Event Square in Moor Street.
theatre ….
If you enjoy comical theatre (from the Merrie England that never was) then come along and watch the fabulous Lancashire Revels perform in Moor Street.
music ….
Music will then be provided by Francesca who will entertain with songs from the 40s and 50s and a wide variety of songs will be performed by the Community Choir.
Music will be playing in Burscough Street.
fun ….
There will be a magician, clowns and circus performers, face painting (in Swinton Insurance in Church Street) and vintage games. In other words, something for all the family.
Family Photographs
A full-size version of our exclusive Gingerbread model will be on display on the plinth in Moor Street and you are very welcome to take family photographs there. If you fancy a photograph with the schools’ winning Gingerbread model, call in at Max Speilman’s shop and the staff will make arrangements for you.
Find Out About Ormskirk’s Heritage
Our links with Ormskirk’s heritage will be provided by the Gingerbread Lady who will be giving out samples of Ormskirk Gingerbread and challenging the youngsters with Gingerbread themed games with a prize every time. Exhibitions of Ormskirk’s past will be on display courtesy of Chris Bentley’s Ormskirk Bygone Times, Ormskirk Family History Society and ORMSKIRK COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP’S own stall. More music will be provided in Burscough Street and a Spot the Shop competition will take families around the town centre streets, looking for clues in the hope of winning an exclusive Gingerbread model.
Special Offers
Visitors will be able to take advantage of special offers (Festival Day only), in shops and restaurants across the town.
Shaw’s Boutique in Burscough Street will be offering a 10% on goods bought on Festival Day.
O’Brien’s Tea Rooms will be offering £1 off their afternoon tea (with gingerbread) and Eat, Drink and Love have a special offer of Tea and Ginger Cake for £3.50.
Other venues across the town will be serving special Gingerbread menus and The Chapel Gallery Café will be serving Gingerbread themed food and drink during the week of the Festival. Gingerbread is now on sale at Neil’s stall in the market.
The Indoor Market
Don’t forget to visit the Indoor Market where you can buy Gingerbread themed jewellery at The Patch and gluten free gingerbread at Janine’s Health Food stall.
There’s Even a Gingerbread Brew!
The Source in Wheatsheaf Walk is putting on a special evening on 29th July, the night before the Festival. There will be a special tasting of Ormskirk Gin with Ginger as one of its botanicals and the launch of Ormskirk Gingerbread Beer. Tickets are £20 and you can book directly at the Source. Another opportunity to sample these new drinks will be in Wheatsheaf Walk on Festival Day.
Also launching a Gingerbread Beer on Festival Day is the Hop Vine Beer Shoppe. Here too, you will be able to sample this new drink.
Makers Market
As an added attraction, there will be a Makers Market in the Chapel Gallery with activities and demonstrations and special Gingerbread menus on offer in the Chapel Gallery Café.
