This week saw the conclusion of matches in Division One of the Ormskirk &
District Amateur Snooker League. This match was carried over from late January and what a very important encounter it proved to be as it had a huge bearing on the destination of the Division One Merit League. The match was between long time leaders, Upholland Social and Aughton Institute A, who lay third in the Merit League table. The Upholland outfit needed just two points to seal the crown or even a single point to share it. Meanwhile, the Aughton A side needed a very big win to snatch the title from their opponents. At the end of a tense, exciting night of hard fought snooker we must give many congratulations to the Upholland Social boys as the spoils were shared at the completion of the match with a 3-3 scoreline and this

outcome saw them claim the prize by four points for a very well deserved triumph and this saw them go one better than last season were they finished runners-up. The three points were suffice for the Aughton A outfit to capture the runners-up spot and much credit must go to them on a superb campaign.

The Division One merit table sees Upholland Social crowned as Champions. They finished on 126 points. Aughton Institute A sealed the runners-up spot after an excellent season, they ended on 122 points. Southport Conservative Club ended their campaign with a brilliant third place after sealing their fifth successive Division One crown on 121 points. The twenty seventh week and final updated table can be found below.

Division 2

This week saw the conclusion of the Second Division campaign and many congratulations must go to Stanley Club B as they sealed the Division Two crown. The Burscough outfit successfully held their nerve in their title deciding match with Aughton Institute D as either team could have been crowned Champions with the right result. The Stanley B side were strong favourites as they held a two point lead and an advantage with wins & draws going into this fascinating encounter but the Aughton D outfit had plenty of momentum as they had the narrowed the gap significantly over the last few matches. At the end of a tense battle it saw the spoils shared as a 3-3 stalemate was reached and it also saw them take the title by two points. The Aughton D lads should be commended and be very proud of their excellent season after going so close to glory but they can take much consolation out of the fact that with finishing runners-up they can take their place in the top flight if they want it.

Aughton Institute B signed off for the campaign on a winning note and can take much pride, yet again, with their very solid season. They ended their final evening with a 4-2 away victory at the expense of Skelmersdale Wardens C to finish in an excellent third position improving on the fourth spot they ended in last term. The Skelmersdale C team campaign is far from over yet as the reigning Kenney Cup Champions go into battle next week in the semi-final of our other cup competition, the Le Rose Cup in their quest to become only the fifth team in our seventy two year history to complete the coveted double.

Aughton Institute C also completed their season in grand style with a fine 5-1 home success over Skelmersdale Wardens B to see them finish in a fine fourth slot especially after they trailed early in the campaign with some poor form. Their season too is far from complete as the Kenney Cup runners-up face the side that beat them in that final in the semi-final of our other cup competition, the Le Rose Cup and obviously have the chance of revenge when they contest that match next week. The Skelmersdale Wardens B outfit ended in sixth in the league table.

The other match in this final week saw Lathom & Burscough RBL conclude with a 4-2 win over Farmers Club, their sixth success of the campaign, to see them end in seventh in the final league proceedings. The Ormskirk outfit completed in a steady

fifth spot in the final placings. Again, they too, have not completely finished this term as they play their Le Rose Cup semi-final next week.
