A leading Sefton adult social care provider is expanding the scope of its operations in the borough.

Bootle-based New Directions has taken on two new contracts from Sefton Council, one to provide domiciliary care services in parts of south Sefton, and another to manage a residential care home for older people in Netherton.

The domiciliary care contract sees New Directions assuming responsibility for a team of around 200 staff providing support to people in Seaforth and Litherland.

These service users have a range of needs and with support from the New Directions Team can continue to live in their own homes.

During their visits staff provide help with personal care, household tasks and a range of other activities that enable clients to remain at home and maintain their independence and quality of life.

Although this is the first time New Directions has provided this type of domiciliary care, the organisation already runs a very successful reablement service.

This provides similar support to clients leaving hospital, helping them to regain their independence and also freeing up beds for other patients.

The other new contract taken on by the organisation involves the operation of James Dixon Court, a purpose-built residential care home in Harrops Croft, Netherton.

James Dixon Court provides support and accommodation for people who have support needs due to age and can no longer live at home.

New Directions will be responsible for the welfare of up to 30 residents at the home, and for the management of a team of around 30 staff.

The employees working in both services join the organisation’s existing team of more than 350 staff who provide a wide range of services to thousands of Sefton residents with support needs due to an age-related condition, disability or mental health diagnosis.

New Directions Managing Director, Bob McDonald, commented: “We’re delighted to be taking on these new projects, and extend a very warm welcome to all the new service users and staff we are meeting for the first time.

“As with our existing clients, our aim will be to provide them with the highest standards of care, and in doing to enable them to lead healthy, fulfilling and independent lives.”

Sefton New Directions, which celebrated its tenth anniversary last year, was the first local authority social care trading company in the country when it was established in 2007.
