This is 'virgin' on the ridiculous...
Five way traffic lights at the busy Fiveways junction are making it as least five times longer for locals driving to and from Southport, Preston and Ormskirk town centre!
And don’t expect the delays and frustration to end any time soon, either; QLocal's Roger Blaxall spoke to one of the contract managers for Warrington's NM Utilities yesterday afternoon enquiring if the road works might be finished for Monday when local schools return after the half term break
His reply?
A succinct "I wish!" which suggests ever more chaos next week as the roads get back to normal.
It took Blaxall at least twenty minutes to drive round Ormskirk on his return from Pemberton, Wigan on the M58 and past Edge Hill. Despite trying to dodge the town centre queues by using Small Lane and Bridge St., he got stuck at the fire station roundabout and then on County Road with a five minute trip taking five times that.
And local queues continued well past six o'clock with Ormskirk town centre, County Road, Southport Road and Halsall Lane all badly affected.
The work's being undertaken on behalf of Virgin Media to give Ormskirk a state of the art communication network; next stop is Formby via Holborn Hill and rural Aughton, Downholland and Altcar.

So this chaos isn’t to make much need improvements to the road network, it’s just for laying cables for Virgin Media....incredible!!

Badly needs junction-widening there......Only takes one or two vehicles to get stuck in the middle trying to make a right turn - and everything else behind grinds to a halt then loses their green light!

Lancs County used the new Switch Island - Crosby linkroad to justify not having an Ormskirk bypass.....Apparently everyone's supposed to reach Southport by going via Ince Blundell!

These cabling works have been a nuisance for months - first up by the junction with Pippin street, and slowly working their way south. There seems to be no regard for the impact on the thousands of people using the A59 every day.
Virgin themselves are utterly unapologetic.
