Surely some form of hidden surveillance cameras could be fitted to these structures. The problem is, the Police aren’t really interested, because if they do catch the vandals and put them in Court, the Magistrates don’t hand out suitable and harsh punishments. The Police must then view it as a waste of time and effort.

Disgusting! Fingers crossed there will be some private cctv, seeing as they have smashed so many. Surely someone must have seen something - either from the houses or passing cars. The police or whoever owns the bus shelters need to go into schools and do talks about this and tell kids about the cost to replace them. These kids need some time in youth detention centres for this, not just a telling off and fine for the parents.

Maybe if perps are caught their parents could be made to pay for the damage.

I agree. When they get a bill of a few thousand and bailiffs knocking when they can’t pay it they might make their brats behave better.

Just noticed 18 and 19 year olds have been arrested - what a bunch of pathetic losers they must be to be doing this at their age. Bad enough thinking it was younger kids.

If you mean laminated glass, it's much more expensive, and breaks more easily, believe it or not. Of course, replacing the current toughened glass several times is hardly economical, but if they changed it to laminated, I guess that the cracked panes would just be left there and not replaced. The only real advantage of laminated is that you don't get a pile of fragments on the floor, as the panes of glass, although broken, stay adhered to the inner membrane.

They must think they are big tough guys and bus shelters don't fight back, problem is even after arrest what action will be taken, very little is probably the answer.

They used to set fire to the plastic/laminated panes I remember, if they are the type being referred to.
