Detectives in Wirral have welcomed the sentencing on Friday, 5 October of 39-year-old Terry Doughty to nine years in prison.



Doughty, of no fixed address, was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court for a number of offences relating to a series of ATM burglaries across Merseyside and Cheshire.

Between January and July 2017, Doughty was one of a number of seven offenders (who were previously jailed for a total of 22 years in February 2018) who in the early hours of the morning, targeted commercial premises such as post officers, convenience stores and service stations that contained ATM machines, in order the steal the cash inside.

In total, Doughty pleaded guilty to three offences of commercial burglary in which £150,000 cash was stolen, as well as inciting violence and possession of a Taser.

Detective Constable Andy Uren said: "I am pleased that the final member of this gang has today been removed from our streets and brought to justice.

"These are not victimless crimes and Doughty is part of group who when confronted by police officers or members of the public, used violence to ensure they were not detained.

"Thankfully he is now behind bars where he belongs."
