Damien Moore MP has welcomed the Conservatives’ new investment in Merseyside, after helping open the revamped Ainsdale station.

This month, the region received £120 million from the government after it agreed a new deal with Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram. As part of the agreement, the Mayor can spend the money on improving local transport and infrastructure.

After the unveiling ceremony at Ainsdale, Damien said: 'Merseyside matters to the Conservatives. It is an important part of our Northern Powerhouse vision, and this extra funding will help us thrive. Hopefully, Mr. Rotheram uses it wisely.

'Considering that taxpayers in Southport have given so much to the region, I would like to see some of the money used to refurbish more stations in our town.'

Labour's Metro Mayor welcomed the Conservatives' investment: ‘This shows their confidence in our ability to drive long-term growth and make a real difference to people’s lives across the city region.’
